Good Old Faithfull
Advantages: Good sound motor Disadvantages: Not as glamourous as some!!

I have owned several over the pass 15 years, and I am still as happy with my present 1.8TD Estate on a P regd as all my previous ones.
It is a very economical car, both on fuel and insurance. It has nice basic features, which okay might not knock our Foreign production models out, but hey, its got everything you need.

Having an Estate version was a worry at first. I thought, oh no it will be a little sluggish, I will get more road noise through the back of the car, and hell it will be harder to park!!!

So if your looking for a good family classic, why not pick up a second hand bargin, and bag yourself an Escort!

Im only 20 and I love my Escort. This must say something if it was designed for a middle aged family or as a fleet car. Im also a student so there wasn't much of a budget when I went looking for a car twelve months ago.
I have always been interested in cars so when it came time for me to get one I made sure that I was clued up n which to look at. I read all the reviews and even went as far as to get insurance quotes on the different models to see ... ...a diesel car because of the mileage I do and the Escort makes these miles pass by very cheaply. I can do around 450 miles per week if I'm busy so the 45mpg I get from the Escort really makes me smile.
As with all fords the interior is excellent. For a car of this price (I paid around £1400 for a 1996 model), I haven't seen a car with interior that is as luxurious as the Escort and that has stood up so well with time.

i bought this car from a second hand car dealer in october 2000, ive had it now 8 months and the only thing to go wrong was the cv joint whcih is just general wear and tear. the turbo diesel engine is reliable, economical and not to mention quite fast when you put your foot down. i have driven a friends 1.8 petrol escort and i think the 1.8td car is faster which annoyed him a bit. haha. over all the carlooks quite nice, doesnt handle to bad for a ... ...there are quite a few things that can be done to make the car go faster and handle better. for around £225 you can have the turbo boost increased which will give the car and exta 18 bhp and the handling can be improved by using wider tyres and using lowering springs and uprated shocks. ...

...the joys of motoring! The Ford parts wear out so quickly! And the suspensions arent too good [or was it all that wine from France?] Make sure you get your parts from anywhere other than the Ford dealerships of course. A nice AA man helped me the other day when the clutch arm went and the dealers supplied the simple looking part for £60. I dont suppose I am telling you anything new if you like to buy second hand cars but I guess overall its down to ...

I bought this car at 3 years old. I have now had it for about 15 months. This is the DIESEL version. It has excellent fuel consumption. Has an excellent 'kick' to it, and feels very meaty except it does seem to noticeably lose power when the air conditioning is on.
The car itself it very sturdy and you always feel safe in it. The first gear ration is excellent, although you can suffer from diesel lag on occasions. It is good through gears 1,2 and ...
