Advantages Advantages Good workhorse, nice engine, nice extras

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lacks finesse (sorry), poor suspension, suspect brakes, not very spacious for passengers

According to my ever-useful Oxford dictionary, the word Finesse means to delicately manipulate something. How this term can be used to describe this (or any other) Ford baffles me. Just look at the badge on the tailgate. The word finesse looks as though it has been haphazardly stuck on, rather than delicately worked into the design. In all honesty, finesse is a word that I would never associate with a Ford. you will see my reasons for this statement throughout this opinion. I am writing this opinion in the main as an observer from the passenger seat. My father owns the car and he does the ... more

Advantages Advantages Reliability, build quality, running costs

Disadvantages Disadvantages Wont exactly make you an individual...

The Escort 1.6 Finesse was one of the last in a long line of great cars bearing the Escort badge, from the earliest MK1 RS1600 right up to the latest MK6 RS2000 and GTi models. When the last Escort rolled off the production line to be replaced by the Focus, Ford had been making Escorts for at least 25 years so you would think it would be fairly safe to assume that they would have got it right by then. Well did they? I personally would have to say yes, they did. Although it's difficult to get that excited about (it is really a family car after all), the Finesse is a rather good little car which ... more

Advantages Advantages Very cheap for spares

Disadvantages Disadvantages Because its an old car it does not benefit from the lower tax bracket £176 per year!

This has been a lovely first car for me.. When things go wrong most garages can help you out as parts are very common. It is very cheap and easy to upgrade/change parts of the car to suite your requirements. I would recommend this to first time buyers or anyone wishing to take advantage of the large boot (which is even bigger if you put the back seats down)! If you are a maintenance man or part time DIY'er this is perfect. This car has been very kind to me on long jurneys, I have completed a round journey from Kent to Manchester using a full tank of petrol!! A big disadvantage is that the rear ... more

Advantages Advantages good engine, responsive, reliable

    Disadvantages Disadvantages poor ride

Ive owned my car now for 2 years. It still looks sharp and pretty especially for a 8 year old car. I have the 1.6 Zetec engine and must say i find it to be perfect, reasonably economic if driven sensibly, a comfortable on or around motorway spped limits, quick when pushed and its started first time everytime. overall cannoit fault the engine at all its even quiet. the suspension is dated and not up to modern cars standards. its bumpy and you feel speed bumps. At speed it feels stable and when you need to turn on a roundabout etc it doesnt roll and does grip well. i suppose that the flipside to ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages very slow for a zetec 1.6 16v

they are not to bad allrounders good for distance or short trips, they look great if you want to put body kits on them, only for the boy racers, ive recently purchased mine for a very low sum of dosh within 2 weeks of having it ,the car is now snaking from 1 side of the road to the other, not sure what that is yet, the heater fan has stoped working, and i cant unlock it from drivers door it has air con which was working, not now because of the fan. i know i can get this all sorted out for a couple of hundread but at the mo i do not have time, i did not pay much for it on a p reg, but it belonged ... more
