As you may or may not know the explorers reputation is still stung with the Ford problem with the wheels, when they fitted unsafe "firestone" tyres on the explorers, which i must add has been corrected and everyone who had the ... ...stop dirt more to hold them in (like any other car) the ford seems more prone to this.

This car is built for off road... but off road in comfort... its is a lovely looking car with a beast inside... i have never looked back!!! ... more
Having driven this car for 2 years, i feel it is a pleasurable car to drive. When i first bought this car i was initially amazed by the amount of space inside, loads of foot and head room. The whole car gave the image of traveling in ultimate comfort. Of course with everything it has it's faults as well as it's good side!
*Advantages* This particular model is very powerful with the options of low ratio, high ration and 2 wheel drive. As i only drive on normal roads i use the 2wd the most and never had a problem to date. The car off road handles itself very well and had an excellent response to the steering making it easy to negotiate the tough terrain. The body of the car stood up to the bashing that i gave it and i had not paint work or other damage, making this model durable. The options available in this car is pretty standard and what you would expect manual, automatic,cd player, interior colour, metal colour and finish and wheel options (i.e. alloys) etc. The XLT was followed up by the Eddie C limited edition which to some think that it has taken the edge off the original explorer as more options were added and special colours with a "Pearl" finish howeve just the same car underneath the bonnet... Underneath the bonnet the car is highly tuned and are realised for the engine which is a little monster (you only have to hear one to know what i mean). A myth follows the explorer is that it rolls very easily... this is not the case i have reseached this fact before my own purchase it was either caused by the driver or the faulty tyres. Plus i must comment on the excellent follow up customer service from Ford at very reasonable prices for services and even if there is something in need of repair parts are readily available again at good prices.
*Disadvantages* As you may or may not know the explorers reputation is still stung with the Ford problem with the wheels, when they fitted unsafe "firestone" tyres on the explorers, which i must add has been corrected and everyone who had the bad tyres had new tyres free of charge (not a well known fact) in the time that i have owned this car, i have had problems mostly with the Air Conditioner which begins to squeal and you have to turn it off as a result (cheap to fix). Another well known problem with this model is that the back door handle breaks just due to wear and tear but once it has been replaced once its does not tend to break again. Also a problem you probably not think of when thinking to buy this car is that the ariel on the front of the nose is impossible to remove with out a spanner therefore making trips to the car wash a bit of a problem! If you were to own this car in a dusty climate it must be said that the head lights do get very dirty, this is because the seal behind is not designed to stop dirt more to hold them in (like any other car) the ford seems more prone to this.
*Conclusion* This car is built for off road... but off road in comfort... its is a lovely looking car with a beast inside... i have never looked back!!!
Advantages: Its a Go Anywhere Vehicle Disadvantages: Can't go as fast as a normal car but thats 2 be expected
