I know that in a way - I`m quoting opinions, not facts but for me - the Ford Fiesta isn`t my cup of tea. I am talk about the brand new version of course - but the older ones also get a similar thumbs down too.
The heater works great, the gearchange is nice, it has a good stereo and all the controls are nicely to hand.
Read a car mag, such as What Car? and they will be in orgasm over the siting of the stereo (you don`t have to take your eyes off the road, etc.) I am sure the electrics won`t fail. Economy will hold up. They will say how crisply the car handles and how the electric rear window clears up the mist so quickly. They`ll love the split rear seat and the safety mods that come with this car.
I understand my failings will annoy and baffle many readers. I understand this is an opinion but drive a Fiesta 1.3 an see for yourself.
If you don`t care what car you drive or you are the sort of person who hates change and rarely buys clothes. If you have no passion in life then buy this car.
If you literally enjoy driving to work. If you don`t live in London, get something else.
3 reasons:
1: this car has a cheap feel to it. Ford have used cheap materials, old parts - drab dashboards built in bulk, for example.
2: total lack of character - you would not give this car a name, for example.
3: and the worst thing of all. This car handles well but why is the engine so unrefined and gutless? Why is this engine still in production? How do they get away with it? How have they got away with it in the past? Didn`t they learn from the 1990 Escort experience.
Shame really but the Fiesta is a total unrewarding experience for me - this is a good car, it will give you good service. But it hardly thanks you for spending £7000 or so of your money on it. If this was a person, it would be grumpy and moan everytime you took it somewhere. The Punto engines love to go out - this one prefers to stay in the garage I think.

well if you wanted a car with character, a quality interior, refinement and exciting performance, I think buying a 1.3 Fiesta may have been a poor decision. And my mum calls her one Betsy.

I wouldn't consider myself to be particularly boring, but I like my Fiesta (she's called Julie). I agree that the engine in my old 1 litre Polo felt just as lively but I also think the new Fiesta has bags more character than previous models. 2 stars is a little harsh I feel... C :o)
