...perhaps one of the best Ford have ever produced for one of their cars, providing some rounded edges on an otherwise very early 90' looking motor. This along with the mini spoiler and optional 14" alloy wheels made this a very sporty looking car, and thus appealing to its desired market of young petrolheads - something this car still manages to this day.
There are few problems on this car to name. One is the reccuring problem of ... ...the floorpan and rear apron, but, this was mostly cleared up by the time the Si's were put into production in 1994.
Otherwise, if you're looking for a car that get s you from a-b fairly safely, quickly and in style for a budget (as you can pick up a good example for about £1500 nowadays) the Fiesta 1.6Si is the car for you. Cheap to maintain and look after, service, and repair, you can't find a better, cheap hot hatch.

In the 90's, "hot hatches" were all the rage, and a leading manufacturer, along with Renault and Peugeot, were Ford. The Fiesta has always been seen as one of the best selling and practical cars in its usual guise. Every so often however, car manufacturers suddenly have a "boy racer" streak and produce small, nippy little cars, capable of carrying its young passengers very simply, and very quickly into very big trouble!
The most popular models of the Fiesta range in the early to mid 90's were the RS Turbo's and XR2i's, with high power to weight ratios that made them all too popular with rebellious youths. With this in mind, insurance companies began to make these cars uninsurable to those under 21 years old, so a new spec model needed to be produced to please the younger, speed-obsessed market. This spec was called the Si.
The car came in two forms, a 1.4 (75hp - ins. grp 7) and a 1.6 (90hp - ins. grp 8). The 1.6 was the quicker, more popular and more powerful of the two, and that is the one I'm going to deal with in this review. like the 1.4, the 1.6 has a zetec engine, which is light, revvy, and offers a very good power to displacement ratio. The engine itself is tried and tested and is a very solid 16valve, twin cam unit. Overall a very good unit to power the light and nimble chassis / body.
The car has looks to match the performance with a very good looking bodykit, perhaps one of the best Ford have ever produced for one of their cars, providing some rounded edges on an otherwise very early 90' looking motor. This along with the mini spoiler and optional 14" alloy wheels made this a very sporty looking car, and thus appealing to its desired market of young petrolheads - something this car still manages to this day.
There are few problems on this car to name. One is the reccuring problem of rust like on all mk3's, found mainly round the arches, the floorpan and rear apron, but, this was mostly cleared up by the time the Si's were put into production in 1994.
Take time out to look for the later models with power steering and oval side repeaters for refinement, and the optional alloy wheels are a must if you're not planning on changing them, as they really do complete the look.
Advantages: Price, Insurance Disadvantages: Usual Ford problems, rust issue
...potential buyer. The Ford Fiesta 1.6 si (sport injection) was decided for first production in 1994 and is available in 3 or 5 door versions. As far as I am aware there are only 3 standard colour options, Maroon, Dark green and light blue. Common standard accessories include electric windows, sunroof, boot popper, central locking, power assisted steering and fog lights.
The Si 1597cc engine produces 90bhp standard and does approximately 36mpg and ... ...be a lot of problems. Ford fiestas of this age are known for their rust problems and this car is no acceptation. Common places for rust are round most sills, wheel arches, boot door. There also seems to be a common problem with this particular model of a ranged gas pedal. This is where you actually get full throttle from pressing lightly on the gas pedal rather than pushing it to the floor. I have heard it can be fixed, although this gas pedal symptom ...

Advantages: Nippy, Great looks, Reliable, Fantastic handling and Ford's best interior. Ultimate hot hatch! Disadvantages: Can rust, similar to any Fiesta really.
...suffer from the sometimes cheap Ford image - it looks good quality and quite sporty too! The interior has been known as Ford's best interior ever, it featured full Recaro design wrap-around bucket seats as standard with the navy blue 'raven' trim - which to today's standards is by no means dated! The interior was one of my favorite elements to the car - it has a real 'hot hatch' feel about it - tight, compact, fast and nimble. If you are picking ... ...the interior refinements as possible - electric windows and so forth - I didn't, and eventually I decided that I fancied them. For me, it was the best first car I could have owned - it's got amazing fuel economy - up to 45mpg!! (When driven sensibly)! The insurance is such great value, and driving it is a pleasure! It's a car that gains you respect no matter how old or young you are - this car is timeless, and for the money they cost, you simply ...

Advantages: Fast for a small car, nice appearance Disadvantages: thirsty car, rusts easily and a bit plastic inside...
I though I would write a short review on this car seen as it was my first, and I recently had to sell it for university...
I really did like this car when I had it, its very fast for its size, and was in quite good nick even though it had 5 previous owners. Fiestas tend to be quite durable cars, except for their cosmetics. One problem with my own version was lots of plastic components from inside the car were missing, and there was alot of rust. ... ...door sills, also the petrol cap, so look out for this, it isn't likely to be major but it seems to occur on most fiestas.
As far as buying the car is concerned, I purchased i for £850 in 2005, and sold the car with tax for £500 this august, this reduction in value was mainly due to the rust and general wear and tear inside the car. It ran very smoothly, and once was filled with diesal by my mother! ah! but its was repaired and kept its original ...
