I BOUGHT MY FIESTA ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO NOW AT A PRICE OF £1650 IT HAD DONE 68,000 MILES AND STILL RUNS A TREAT.
Since then i have covered more than 30,000 miles and the only problem i have has was a seized front brake caliper, the reason for this was the fact the car was left stood for 6 weeks in portsmouth dockyard, the salt caused it to seize. It only cost me £100 for a new caliper, a pair of discs and brake pads.
MAINTENANCE:
I do most of the serviceing my self, i change the oil every 5000 miles this only cost £25 and is one of the best things you can do for a high milage diesel. I replace other consumables in accordance with ford and i buy the parts from Halfords. Timing belts should be changed every 70 miles according to FORD, this will cost you around £160 at a garage. As for tyre life i have done more then 20,000 miles on a pair of front tyres that cost around £30 each, and expect them to go another 10,000 before i need to replace them. Expect around 40,000 miles from rear tyres dependant on quality of tyre.
INTERIOR:
I have the LX model so it has the sunroof, power steering, central locking, electric windows and some other extras. Power steering make all the differnce to the bottom of the range fiesta, on a heavy car like this you need power steering, the rest of the electrics can be seen as a bonus. Generaly the inside is of good quality, its what you would expect from a car of this type
PERFORMANCE:
Do not buy one of the cars if you want to get from 0-60 in under 10 seconds, its not a performance car, and without a turbo at only 60BHP you shouldnt expect too much. Having said that i commute 600 miles a week on motorways and have no trouble at all. Once she is upto speed she is quite happy to sit at 75mph without a fuss. Brakes are great, more than ample for type of driving the car is designed for.
I manage to squeeze 400 miles out of a 40 litre tank on motorways and a little less if im around town more often.
INSURANCE:
Im 22 years old and have 8 points on my licence with 2 years NCB and it cost me £448 for a year for fully comp insurance with my girlfriend are a named driver.
