I have been issued with a courtesy car today as my lovely Astra has gone to be fixed following a prang in the rear and the subsequent shunt to the front. The courtesy car is a Ford Fiesta Zetec which is 8 months old being an '04'.
If you are into lots of specs, don't continue to read as this is not for you!!
I collected the car this morning, as I said, in the pouring rain. 'It is black' is all I could tell my work colleagues as the car made little impression on me.
During the course of the day, I have been driving about, so can now give a more detailed, if layman, view of the vehicle.
First off, the inside seems surprisingly spacious, which is good as I have lots of people to carry around in it. The interior matches the exterior, with black furnishing, a black dash but with brushed alluminium touches here and there.
There is a rev counter, with a strange petrol gauge on it, a liquid crystal display of the tank and the level counted in stripes to show how full/empty it is. Next to that is a similar display to show engine temperature.
The seat was low down, and even after negotiating the pump to raise it, I am still only just looking over the steering wheel (I am 5'3"). I will have to put a cushion on the seat as I feel too low still.
The seat was quite comfy, but not as good as my Astra.
The gears. Now, I am not happy with the design of the gear stick. The console for the gear stick is very raised up, and so, the result is that the gear stick itself is very high. It also seems very far away from me and sits quite forward on the console. I have found that my arm is completely outstretched for first gear and not at all comfortable to change gears. Also, there is not much space between any of the gears compared with the Astra and I am 'there' before I think I will be and it has jarred my elbow each time. I will be used to this soon, but an observation never the less.
Everything seems to be 'clunky' in the car. I can definitely feel a difference in quality to the Astra, and previously I always drove Escorts and they were much more comfy than this little car.
I can't comment on fuel consumption as I haven't been driving it enough just yet.
The arm rest again, very hard and not at all comfy and a little high for a short arse like me too. One bonus is that Ford created the heated Windscreen, and have patented it for their cars only (according to my sources) which is great for frosty mornings/evenings.
Another fact about small cars is that the car behind is so close to me. My accident has made me feel rather vulnerable to shunting again and I feel very unsafe when cars have been dashing up behind me. It makes me question the amount of women with young children who would drive this type of car without much 'crumple zone' in the back considering the amount of damage that has been done to the boot of my normal car.
Finally, the bit that has pee'd me off this evening, is that it wouldn't start!! I got in, turned the switch keeping my foot on the clutch as newer manuals tend to tell you to do, and it just refused to start. I tried a couple of times, let it rest incase of choking the engine, then tried again tapping the accelerator. This time it worked. I am now worrying for tomorrow morning when it is colder as I can't be late for work.
So I will only give this small car 7/10 really. Too boxy, too clunky, and somewhat unreliable considering it is new.
I really want this car. I haven't passed my test yet though! I hope nothing goes wrong when I get mine! Sue xx

I hate Fords. My company gave me a Focus, its rubbish. I'm trying my hardest to destroy the damn thing without killing me in the process. Gone through two tyres arleady and I've only had it for four months.

Have no idea about cars but if I did I wouldn't get on of these from the sound of it
These Sill Protectors have been tailor made to fit a Fiesta Zetec S 2 door, from year 2008 ... more
onwards. They have an attractive downward curve along the front, protecting not only the upper surface, but also the rounded area of the sill which is the part most likely to get scratched. There are 2 Sill Protectors in the Set measuring 800 mm long. The engraving in the photo, shown above, is actually etched into the Stainless Steel. It will not wear off.
