I am now the proud owner of a ford focus 1.6 zetec and for the first time in many years I have actually found a car that pretty muc suits all my needs.
I have spent many a time in cars that are too big, too small, not suitable, not comfortable etc but this is everything I could ask for.
I own the three door version but the doors open widely and when the front seat is moved forward there is plenty of room to get anyone in the back, even my mother in law who is disabled. The back of this car is extremely spacious, comfortably fitting 3 large adults in.
The boot size is deceiving in that it looks pretty small but is very spacious indeed. Perfect for all those shopping bags as well as a childs pushchair.
The actual drive of this car is superb. Mine runs on unleaded and is very economical. I can get over 200 miles to £35.00 of petrol which is pretty good especially in a traffic congested area. The tax is £79.75 for 6 months so that too is economical and the insurance is cheap.
The handling is superb with no problems with either under-steer or over-steer and has never slid in rain though have not tried it on the ice yet! The zetec engine means the car has a 'bit of go' and doesnt feel sluggish when pulling away from lights.
Most focus cars of this age (mine is a 2003) comes standard with elec windows, cd player and alloys but was surprised it didn't come with air-con as standard.
The interior is modern yet quite plain and simple. What I like about this car is that it is big enough on the inside to accommodate 4 large passengers with bags of space for bags etc in the boot yet it is still quite a petite classy looking car making it easy to drive, park and manoevre.
All in all I would totally recommend this car. You may have to pay for some extras that many car manufacturers supply as standard but I dont think you can really go wrong with a Ford. Reliability is excellent and if anything does go wrong then you know Ford parts are pretty cheap to get hold of.
Im personally really pleased with this car for the money. Cheap to run, insure and tax. Great reliability and a lovely drive.
