BACKGROUND
I bought my 5 door X reg 1.8 Zetec Focus nearly 2 and a half years ago.My previous cars were a Ford Escort 1.3 followed by a Vauxhall Astra 1.3 then a Cavalier SRi. My most recent cars have been a Ford Sierra and a Fiat Punto. Yes I know what you are thinking my car choice can only get better. Up until now I rated the 2 vauxhalls head and shoulders above the Fords. In fact I once said that I would never have another Ford again! Anyway onto the present. The Focus has style and is somewhat a more interesting shape than anything else that Ford has had to offer except for the Model T of course!
PERFORMANCE
My Focus has covered 22,000 miles of trouble free motoring (touch wood it will continue). It has had 2 main dealer services at a cost of £98.00 each time which I think is very reasonable and will help with resale value. The top speed is around 115 to 120, and will cruise around the ton mark (obviously in countries where legal). The car is geared well for overtaking between 45 and 60.This combined with sure footed handling makes the difference between my previous cars. My model has Air Conditioning which I find fantastic in our short occasionally hot summers.
The average MPG is around the 35 to 40 mark depending how and where you are driving. I spend around £15 a week to and thro work each day which is a 12 mile round urban trip. Then there is the weekly shop at Asda and my football on a Sunday.
EXTRAS
The heated front screen is handy for defrosting the ice in winter. There are electric front windows and side mirrors. The car comes with a radio cassette as standard but you can opt for a CD player which I believe is around £150 extra. The standard speakers are quite sufficient for the sound. There is remote control central locking with seperate boot lock. There is an internal boot release catch. This is handy if it's raining and you don't want to get out of the car to help the wife unload the shopping!!!
COMFORT
The seating position offers you a higher position than most standard makes of car. All round visibility is good. The car comes with Twin airbags at the front
SUMMARY
Ford have got a winner with this car.The Focus is an ideal family, older person, younger person, and company car. This is due to Ford's success in putting together a great all rounder which appeals to more than most.
