My first C-Max was a 1.6 TDCi, and I have to say that it was a disappointment. The specification of the car is practically the same as the 2.0 litre TDCi apart from the six-speed gearbox, but the performance left a lot to be desired; the 1.6 was slow and sluggish with too much 'lag' so I was pleased to get the 2.0 litre a week or so later. What a difference this car proved to be! The specification includes power assisted steering, electric windows (though only at the front) Single CD player, Anti Lock Brakes, Twin Airbags, Heated Front Screen (An absolute MUST) Air Conditioning, Electric mirrors, Remote ICE controls, Alloy Wheels, Cup Holders, Aircraft style trays, Rear floor storage, Sunglasses holder, Remote controlled central locking, Alarm, Three rear inertia seatbelts, and of the course the optional furry dice! Don't be fooled by the cars 'family' look, this car leaves most of the idiots competing in 'The Traffic Light Grand Prix' for dead! It has even challenged and occassionally beaten a few of the 'Nutters' on two wheels capable of lift-off! In terms of practicallity, it offers a family similar to mine(With a two-and-a-half year old) loads of bootspace, ease of entry, a better overall view, convenient storage (thanks to cleverly designed compartments in the rear floor) and a relaxed comfortable drive. They also give the driver a 'sense of fun', for too long the fun seems to have gone out of driving, with all the speed humps, camera's, traffic calming idea's and Neo-Nazi Mercedes' drivers around. If you are considering a mini MPV then I would reccommend a test drive in one of these. Beware though the performance of the car comes at the cost of heavy consumption (for a diesel). But the TDCi engine delivers a quiet, responsive and almost explosive turn of speed. TDCi technology with diesel engines appear to be the way that most manufacturer's are leaning towards. From the driver's point of view, you appear to get performance and economy all in one. With the sporty feeling of having 6 gears! I have to say that there is a certain amount of satisfaction to be gained by the surprised looks of the Sports car owners when they eventually catch you up at the next set of traffic lights and you see them craning their necks to see if the badging denotes the engine size! My current car is a very disappointing 1.8 Mondeo Mistral but hopefully I will only have it for a few weeks. I will probably go for the C-Max Ultima next!

You had me laughing with yor quote "Don't be fooled by the cars 'family' look, this car leaves most of the idiots competing in 'The Traffic Light Grand Prix' for dead! " You sound just like me- I have what looks like a normal family saloon (with a V5 under its bonnet) but at the lights I'm first one off and the Bmw's are chasing me, plus its spacious for my family and I have 2 yr old too (car mad!) Who needs those ridiculous MPV's -people had kids before MPV's and they managed, well, good advertising pays! BTW, I was abit confused reading this: you mentioned at the begining you had the 1.6 then got this 2.0 and then at the end of your review say you have a Mondeo??And as its a diesel I have to ask whats the fuel economy like, what sort of mileage do you get? and diesels more expensive to service? any idea. Lucky you how did you get thisfor free then??? Enjoy -No doubt you will! -CH

Advantages: The c-max is a good family car. It is roomy, comfortable and practical. Disadvantages: For the driver it is quite cumbersome to park and a high ride from the road.
