Dagenham's latest dog. New, but not improved

Advantages: Less road noise than the original
Disadvantages: Dire engine, awful brakes, etc....

I had a Ford Focus on a 04 plate which is the older style to this one I'm reviewing. It was a diesel hatchback model, however it had a terminal problem which meant I was given this newer 56 plate version as a replacement by my company. In this review I will look at the differences between the old and the new version as I have driven both and I rarely get my hands on the other car namely Mrs Cad's Honda Jazz.

Firstly the newer Focus ...
...original version, but to me Ford are stepping backwards and are not concentrating on what was good in the old Focus. They have delivered a car that has improved looks but little else. Indeed I have compared it many times to Mrs Cad's Honda Jazz and in most aspect like ease of driving, use and versatility I felt that the 'super-mini' Jazz beats the bigger bulk of the Focus estate. All the good points from the old Focus have been dropped like the figure ... more

Ford Focus LX 1.6 TDCi Estate

Advantages: Comfortable, good handling, nice driving position, economical, good load carrier, 3 year warranty - no servicing required.
Disadvantages: Not a lot of "extras as standard", no ISOFIX for child seat,

the local Ford dealer where they promptly identified that the steering rack was faulty. In this case I was just unlucky as this doesn't seem to be a common problem (according to Ford). Actual cost would have been approx £700. One very good point, however, is that the standard 3 year Ford warranty covered a lot of areas of the car and did not require the vehicle to be serviced. So, not a lot of problems and already that's the negative part out of the way. Oh, I've just changed all 4 tyres as they were close to the legel limit (1.8mm - 2mm left). So, effectively they've managed about 30000 miles. One small niggle is that when you put the fan/heater on and select the windscreen demist setting, the air con automatically comes on. You then have to switch it off if you don't want it. If the selector is left in this position, then ...

KIA C'eed SW estate GS Diesel

Advantages: space economy value for money quality
Disadvantages: no dash liht dimmer and would benefit from cruise control

i own this KIA C'eed it is the station wagon version or estate as most of us know it. it is diesel gs model. I have owned BMW 3 series, AUDI 80, Numerous VW Golfs, Astra Estate and a Ford Focus estate. This wins hands down. i have average 49mpg in a 1.6 diesel estate! it is quiet, huge and reliable. It has almost every feature you could want. cd palyer mp3 and ipod connection. Lumbar adjustment on both front seats. roof bars large boot space including fold flat rear seats and is even bigger than a Volvo V70 estate when the seats are down. amazing! a coupe of annoying things, the dash light does not dim on this model, WHY? also if it had cruise control that would be great. the LS version does have this and finally the steering is very light, but i have adapted to that now. superb value for money vehicle ...

Review of Kia Ceed

Still the handling king

Advantages: Handling, Driving experience, Heated Windscreen, Refined Engine
Disadvantages: Oddball styling, Cluttered Dash, Main Beam Light, Quality suspect in places

the driving dynamics of a Ford Focus. I had to get an estate version because I was accommodating for 4 passengers and luggage. The model I rented was a 1.6 Zetec. Features that came with this model included air conditioning, electric front windows, ABS and remote central locking. This model did not feature an alarm though. Exterior Love it or hate it, you have to admit the Ford Focus body dynamics are different. Even to this day after 4 years since it came out, opinions are still very divided about the Focus' looks. It dares to be different with its combination of round moulded shell and angular lines. You can tell other manufacturers are following suit as well with this line of peculiar (if not ugly) styling. Just look at the recent Honda Civic, Peugeot 307, Fiat Stilo, and Toyota Corolla. Most of these newly released cars have ...
