You Can In A Ka

Advantages: Fun to drive. VERY distinctive looks. Good handling. A very practical and easy to drive car.
Disadvantages: Not a lot of extras. A "girly" image. restricted choice of engines and specifications.

...hire company offered me a Ford Ka instead. I’d been intending to have a drive in a wee Ka for ages, and was supposed to have one booked on a short trip to Scotland last year, but on that occasion the hire company pawned me off with a Peugeot 106 instead. (That DID perturb me, ‘cos it was/is a crap motor car!)

~ ~ The Ka has been a best seller for Ford ever since it first hit the streets back in 1996, so it has to have something ...
...still based on the old Ford Fiesta chassis, but has a far livelier 1297cc engine than the older models, which pumps out 68bhp at 5,500rpm.
What this means is that it’s a bit nippier than in the past, although with a 0 to 60mph time of just a shade over 14 seconds, you’re hardly likely to be taking part in the sequel to the movie “The Fast and the Furious”. But it’s still plenty fast enough for ordinary day to ... more

Advantages: Much more room inside than expected, superb fuel economy, quite nippy
Disadvantages: VERY mushy brakes, no cool gadgets

...had a look at the Ford website (www.ford.co.uk/ie/ka). Apparently, it takes 14.1 seconds to go from a standstill to 62 miles per hour. That may be, but the car FELT nippier, probably because of its size. Like I said before, I rented this car. So I’ve never had it serviced, clearly, and can’t discuss how often nor how much it costs. This is, however, a Ford, and so finding service centres shouldn’t be difficult. I think. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ...
...Were you to visit a Ford dealership, you would no doubt test drive the Ka for yourself. You’d also no doubt enquire about service intervals and the like. No test drive, though, tells you what it’s like to drive for a week. This, I hope I have done. Are you looking for an ultracompact car? Then I would certainly recommend you consider the Ka, keeping in mind all the points I’ve made above. It’s reasonably priced and seems ...

Ford's KA - Luxury

Advantages: Great economy, luxury trim, cute car
Disadvantages: A bit slow

...when she decided on a Ford Ka, I'd always liked the styling and her choice of the luxury model meant that I would have all the extras to play with too. The Ka has been a popular little motor since 1996, ours is the Luxury model which we bought new on 51 plates in 2001. The car had great looks with its colour coded bumpers and mirrors, alloy wheels and metallic paint - I think these features are extra cost options on the other models. I don't suppose ...
...of the window trims - Ford use a black plastic film to give some of the finish a smoked glass effect, it looks really good but you'll see most older cars have this peeling away. My dealer did not want to repair this but I insisted, I showed him all the other cars in his car park with the same issue and asked him how he thought it could not be seen as a design fault. He called Ford and they accepted the cost (About £5 + fitting). If you have a ford ...

Marmite car - you love it or hate it

Advantages: Plenty of room in the front
Disadvantages: No room in the back

I’ve had one of these bad boys for about three years now. Mine in particular is the most basic modern car you can get I think. As far as I’m aware the Ka only comes with one engine type – the Fiesta’s 1.3i Endura-engine. Compared to other similar sized cars, it seems to be quite quick. I have driven a couple of Saxos, an AX, Fiesta or two, Clio, 206 and the Ka fares quite well against them. I particularly dislike the Saxo (or Paxo as I call it, because ...
...reason that I had one as a courtesy car when my Ka was being serviced. It made me realise how good the Ka build quality is coupled with it’s attention to detail: The seat knocked, it was really slow, and I felt like the hand brake was about to fall off if I pulled it too hard – it had only done 600 miles! I would like to point out that I have only driven two Paxos, and neither for a great distance or time, so it is perhaps a little unfair for me ...

Advantages: Cheap to run and insure.
Disadvantages: small

...on the forecourt of a ford dealer surrounded by cars of all models and sizes, I was quite sure It was going to be either the Ford Ka or the Ford Fiesta. I am still learning to drive at the moment, something I’ve often thought of doing but never really got around to but now with mobility problems starting to slow me down I thought it’s a choice of becoming house bound, dependant on other people or taking up the challenge and taking some driving lessons. ...
...mine, my very own little Ford Ka. Some people including my self seem to be a little unsure of just how to pronounce the word Ka, I have heard several versions so I asked the head mechanic in the service department and he assured me it is pronounced “Ka” as in the sound of the word “car” so that’s good enough for me. When I told the salesman that I wasn’t sure whether to buy a Fiesta or a Ka he informed me that the engine and the chassis is the ...

Although I have been informed should anything ever go wrong Ford parts are easy, quick and cheap to fit which is always good to know! As I have the climate KA, I also have heated front and back windows, and this is a god send on them icy mornings when you have to scrap it all from your ...

The Black Panther

Advantages: Small and manouverable
Disadvantages: It's a bit girly

I bought my Ford KA at the end of May 2007 after a very lengthy search for a new car. I wanted something small and girly but with a decent sized engine. Following numerous test drives of practically every make of small car in the country the Ford KA came out top. ***Versions*** There are a few different versions of the KA, all with a 1.3i engine or the Sportka which comes with a 1.6i engine. Wonderful Ka

Advantages: Tardis like, nippy car,
Disadvantages: What happened to the glovebox!

Well after years of service my trusty Ford Escort 1.6 Ghia I needed to be replaced due to a slight rust problem. Given a woman's perspective I thought that I needed a smaller car with just two doors, cheap on tax and petrol. After a few weeks of surfing the net and checking what was available within my price range an unbelievable deal dropped in my lap via my brother in law (who is a mechanic). The 2004 Ford Ka 1.3 8V Duratec in Silver Although I had seen these cars around I had never really paid that much attention to them but I had this car on trial for a day so I thought what the hell lets give it a go. Outward appearance it was tidy and smart but my main concern was handling. I found the car to be very responsive with the power steering with the 1299cc 8V Duratec engine the vehicle put my Escort to shame on acceleration to ...

I KAn't believe it's not that bad!

Advantages: small and nippy
Disadvantages: minimal features and not that spacious

I'm currently driving the Ford Ka 3 (1.3) as a courtesy car. Being a courtesy car it has few features...no electric windows, no sunroof, no central locking, but I believe that these are available if required. The first thing that hit me about this car was the power steering. Man alive! You turn the steering wheel, one degree and it as good as does a 90 degree turn! It's gonna take some getting used to! I'm sure that when I get my old car back, I'm gonna end up going into the back of someone, as I'll have gotten used to the power steering and will understeer big time on my none-power steered car! Other than that, it accelerates pretty well for a 1.3, and is easy to drive. It's a small car and is hence easy to park. It's also very economical, it's mpg is very good (45mpg). Now lets get onto the size. It's very spacious...as long ...
