The Ford KA, officially an icon for Ford. The Ka was introduced in 1996 and my girlfriend bought the 1998 KA 1 model as her first car. It was obviously a 3-door model (the only option) but it was in a weird colour, it looked like brown, grey and silver mixed into one, but it was listed in the logbook as grey. The KA was originally designed to only have black plastic bumpers so in the event of a minor crash they could easily and cheaply be replaced. This model has the black bumpers, but having done 72000miles upon purchase they had done a feint grey colour and although the black bumper/trim polish is easy and cheap to buy from Halfords or anywhere, I would recommend (if you can afford it) to buy a colour coded one as they just look better and don’t have to be repainted even if the car doesn’t need it- as the black ones do. I love the looks of it, it just oozes style and difference to any other car this size, however I don’t think it’s a car I could own- for one reason I’m a man. The interior is without doubt my favourite thing about the car, its just so different to anything I’ve ever been in and I love it. The driver’s side sort of sticks out but the passenger side of the dash is tiny and gives much more space. The space in the front is actually very good and makes the car seem spacious. However in the back is very different as the car is to small to find anyone in the back who is above 5foot, well they’d fit in but wont be comfortable on a long trip, especially it there’s people in the front passenger seat. There’s only one airbag and it’s a drivers one, however that doesn’t seem enough, my girlfriend crashed her car at 30mph in a head on collision with another car (other driver on phone) yet the airbag never went off and caused my girlfriend to hit the steering wheel- seriously bruising her chest. This was only 1 month after it had been into Ford for a full service, so make sure Ford check it. Also to say this car had over 70000miles when purchased, i have do say it was excellent and besides the air-bag not going off, nothing at all, not even a bulb ever when wrong and we owned it 3 years. The 1.3 engine is quite gutsy and does pull well upto town speeds, which is the home of the KA, but beware any long drives do become very annoying as the engine is noisy and not quick enough for the speeds of the motorway except in the slower lanes, unless revved really hard. I would also recommend getting one after 1998, as reports suggest they are built much better due to early demand for the car being much more than ford expected, early build quality is not great- reports suggest.
Good Car - YES Recommendable- YES--- BUT to females only Would I Buy – No I’m Male
