Full car review

You’ve heard that old chestnut about owners looking like their dogs? And dogs looking like their owners? Well, I’m wondering if the same thing happens with cars, ‘cos whilst I’ve been making some notes about my Ford Ka for this opinion, I’ve realised that there are some similarities between my car, My Ford Ka2 and myself.

First of all, the shape. It’s small and perfectly formed. It’s stylish and curvy with a well-rounded bottom. As I am (LOL! – If you don’t know what I’m talking about see my op on Morgan and all will become clear!) It has the kind of look that you either love or hate, and personally, I love it.

The interior is also funky and modern and the dashboard has a futuristic design to it –bit like sitting inside a spaceship. There is only room for four people in this car, but there is plenty of space for them. My boyfriend, who is 6’2”, does not have a problem with headroom when he is driving, although he does has to push the seat right back. Unfortunately there is not a huge amount of luggage space in the boot, but you cannot buy a car this size and expect to fit the whole family and a weeks’ shopping in it. I have found there to be plenty of room for me. I use my car for gigs, and with the back seat down I can fit my whole PA system, or karaoke setup in the back (which includes speakers, amp, portable TV, speakers stands, and many other bits and pieces) plus two passengers – and still see out of the back window!! OK, there is a certain way this has to be loaded to fit it all in, but it still goes. People often ask me – “how did you get all that in there..?”

There are also loads of cup holders built in to the interior design – something which I don’t need, but could be useful.

Handling. This is where the Ka comes into its own. I’ve found that I can take corners at a very reasonable speed and with the 1.3 engine (which is pretty big for a car of this size) I have found the acceleration to be pretty good, especially when you’re trying to beat someone next to you off the mark at traffic lights.

Economy. My Ka mirrors it’s owner in this respect too, because it does not like to waste money!!! I have found that I get on average between 40-45mpg town driving. Servicing has not been ridiculously expensive, and the only things I had to pay for on it’s first MOT were general wear and tear items.

Safety. One of the main reasons I bought this car was that it came very high in the Small Car Safety Stakes in the Which report (which we usually check in our household before making any major purchases). To me, this is the most important factor when buying a car. The Ka comes with a driver’s airbag as standard. The front structure of the Ka was designed for optimal energy absorption in the event of an impact and it also has high strength door beams for side impact crashes.
Security. My Ka came with high security locks, central locking, an immobiliser and self locking boot.

I have found my Ka to be great for town driving and for motorway driving. It cruises along at 90mph with no problems at all. At speed, It’s not the quietest car I’ve ever been in, but it’s also far from the noisiest I’ve ridden in.

Parking – well, the Ka is so small, I can often find spaces that others have not bothered with simply because their cars would not fit into them. All I have to do is worry about actually manoeuvring it to get it into the space (parking is not my strong point!!)
The only drawback I can see is that this is not a family car – there is not enough room!

To sum up my opinion, if you are looking for a small car on a budget I could not recommend the Ford Ka2 more highly. With electric windows, sunroof, driver's airbag, central locking and power assisted steering you cannot go wrong. If you are looking for a family car then this is probably not for you as it is simply too small!!

Thanks for reading!

Advantages: Cute, Nippy and Very Economical
Disadvantages: Errrr...

...- hurrah!!! The Radio/Cassette that Ford make is great, and I can wire a CD changer into the boot and not have to change the player in the car (apparently, although I wouldn't know where to start with this). The dashboard is quite basic, I'd love a thermometer and all that jazz, but it has everything you need APART FROM A PETROL LIGHT!!! I'm used to this and I keep nearly running out of petrol... The car has central locking, which is great, but ...
...I would assume that as Ford are quite a common name parts would be easily available and relatively cheap. I may be wrong and in for a nasty shock... To Insure: Obviously depends where you go. Cheaper than most other cars I got quoted on... I actually bought this car at a Renault garage, and they've been very helpful. It's ideal for the smaller roads of the Isle of Wight (where I live) and I cant wait to take it on the motorway, I think it'll do ... Read review

Car review of Ford Ka 2 1.3i  by moonbailey

Advantages: Beauty, economy, compactness and charm.
Disadvantages: Cat Magnet

...the proud owner of a Ford KA! Let's just say it was the biggest favour I've called in, in the history of calling in favours. Anyway, it's an S reg KA2 in 'Copper Glow' with an interior to die for. There's very little I don't like about the KA2. The looks are something you either love or hate and obviously I love it or I wouldn't have got one. I also adore the colour - which is odd because I hate red cars! This is a really cheeky red though as it ...
...let me go check...rust red, later if the sun's out it will shine a bright sunny orange and tonight at dusk it will be cherry. Bless it. Having had use only of a very clapped out old fiesta before - you could stick your arm through the passenger door, whilst closed; the aerial had long since fallen off and the speakers only worked if you slammed the door hard and turned them up full to break them in - it's only natural that I think the KA is the best ... FORD KA
Car review of Ford Ka 2 1.3i  by Sugarlily83

Advantages: fits in my garage!
Disadvantages: small engine

...best by far is the ford ka. Now, as with most cars, this one does have some downsides: although there is plenty of headroom, widthwise this car is not for chubby people. I am by not overweight, and I fill the seat. Also, at 5"5', I am of average height, and I sometimes feel my knees are under my chin: sure you can oush the seat back, but that does mean not being able to use the back seats... Also, the boot space is limited, you'll find you need ...
...I've never come across a Ford in which I could sleep. However, 6ft2 ex boyfy and I did once manage to squeeze in some back seating.... ;-) However, the exhaust has needed replacing twice (-can you hear that funny noise? -well it wasn't ME!) but very little else has gone wrong. One more thing is that the windscreen frame is big and a bit of a blind spot when cornering. In all, a great little run around, in which I feel safe and secure, knowing that ... Read review

Nice Ka to drive
Car review of Ford Ka 2 1.3i  by Mattnottm

Advantages: Comfortable, roomy, handles well
Disadvantages: None

My first opinion of the Ford Ka wasn't too positive. I thought they looked strange, but this soon changed when I realised a friend had purchased one in London. To be a passenger in a Ford Ka is comfortable to say the least. The front passenger seat is pleasant, as tall people will not be bumping knees into a low piece of black plastic. The Glove compartment doesn't jut out, and gives the sense of space in the front. Sitting in the back is ok, but ...
...say much about driving a Ford Ka, as I have only driven one around Tesco's car park in Goodmayes! When I was driving it then, it seemed to be very easy to control, and the steering was very easy. I think all Ka's come with power-assisted steering but don't quote me. Gadget-wise is the Ford Ka quite modern. It has a Ford CD Player, which is of good quality and the sound that the speakers produce is ample. The dashboard isn't particularly cluttered, ... Read review

Laughing on the other side of their faces...
Car review of Ford Ka 2 1.3i  by Romey

Advantages: Small, funky looking, great handling, good fuel consumption
Disadvantages: Small boot (not very good for weekends away)

When I first mentioned to my friends that my new car was going to be a KA2, I was met with a few underhand mickey taking comments and a lot of sniggering…since purchasing it and taking my friends out in it, I am the one left laughing when they tell me that they want one too. This little car is cheap on tax with its small 1.3 engine, insurance (group 2) and has a good fuel consumption level (about 35-40mpg) So put the above money savers alongside ...
...(mine has a mini rear window spoiler) perfectly rounded and the interior is one of my favourite ever things – its has trendy patterned seats and upholstery and the dashboard is a futuristic design that is a different shape than anything else you see in any cars around – the dials are white and easily distinguishable, the heating knobs are modern looking and different. While the glove compartment is very small and compact (not much room for your cd’s) ... Read review

Ford Fiesta 04
Car review of Ford Fiesta Zetec S by  emmaj13

Advantages: CD Player, cheap to run
Disadvantages: servicing can be expensive..

...I bought a 04 plate Ford Fiesta Zetec 1.4 3dr about 2 years ago. I am a fan of Ford cars, had a little KA before. Hence, this purchase. Best things (from a girls point of view!) - Is that it has really good heating and A/C, heats up all nice and toasty but also lovely in the summer with the A/C on a long drive. At the moment with this cold weather, I hate it if it takes me ages to de-frost my car but this is great, does the front and back as normal but also has little heaters in the door which start de-frosting the windows!! But the best thing of all in the stereo, I have just the standard ford CD player. Nothing special from the front but has this brilliant thing of knowing how noisy your car is so if you are on the motorway it increases the volume and then if you stop and some light it will decrease. Love it!! The not so... Read review

The wonderfull Kia Picanto
Car review of Kia Picanto by  allybm

Advantages: A wonderfull nippy, well designed and comfortable car with surprisingly a lot of room
Disadvantages: Small boot (but it has storage under it)

...In October last year I purchased a new Kia Picanto GS as I needed a small comfortable, reliable and fuel economic 5 door vehicle as I was beginning to do lots of miles for work. Before I bought a vehicle i knew i would find it difficult finding one i liked as i had a long wish list of things i wanted the car to have, and it had to be disability friendly as i have got arthritis, even though i'm only 25 years old. In order to buy the correct vehicle I test drove and loaned other vehicles, including; Citroen C1/C2/C3, Ford Ka, Chevrolet/Daewoo Matiz, Fiat Panda, Nissan Micra, Peugeot 106/1007/206, Smart ForFour, Toyota Aygo & VW Lupo/Fox/Golf and others. However not one of these fully meet my needs and i began to look at other makes/models, including the Kia Picanto. At first i was sceptable about the Kia brand, as i knew nothing... Read review
