I never really understood why they named this car a Ka. Sooo much confusion... but, like any celebrity offspring it needed something kooky. And so the Ka was born.
We bought ours in 1998, fairly soon after they came onto the market, and it's a car I've grown up in and learned to drive in.
So what it it? Well it's a three door hatchback, ladybird in shape, which seats four. Very cute, apparently designed by a woman.
And the Ka really is suited to a woman, small, nippy, ideal for going down the shops and parking up between road hog 4x4s (HATE HATE HATE!!! GREEDY CARS CHOKING UP THE ROADS!) and into my extremely tiny garage, which measures about twelve centimetres by 300.
What else does it boast?
Front and back wipers, very nice, but with a tendency to leave a dirty spot in the corner. No sunroof, which is annoying on hot days and no air con either. However, the windows are electric which is lots of fun!
Four cup holders, although three of them you need to keep your hand on as you corner, otherwise cans will spill.
The dash is sweet, with a real clock - not a digital! Hurrah!!! Have you ever been out on the street, wondering what the time is, to find yourself peering into cars, looking for clocks? I have, and the best by far is the ford ka.
Now, as with most cars, this one does have some downsides: although there is plenty of headroom, widthwise this car is not for chubby people. I am by not overweight, and I fill the seat. Also, at 5"5', I am of average height, and I sometimes feel my knees are under my chin: sure you can oush the seat back, but that does mean not being able to use the back seats...
Also, the boot space is limited, you'll find you need to put your groceries on the back seat, but if this doesn't bother you then go for it!
And what's it like on motorways? Well yes, the 1.3 engine isn't bad, but coming off sliproads, I find I need to FLOOR it to get it moving fast enough. Don't get me wrong, this little bug can do 90, but you need to let it unfold its wings before it'll get there. However, you do get about 50 miles per gallon, which is good!
We've driven this on long journeys across the country (300 miles non stop) and the car holds up beautifully, never breaking down even though it's seven years old now (though we have always garaged it - but hey, you get what you put in!). Sometimes I've spent time trying to sleep on the backseat, and it doesn't work. I've never come across a Ford in which I could sleep. However, 6ft2 ex boyfy and I did once manage to squeeze in some back seating.... ;-)
However, the exhaust has needed replacing twice (-can you hear that funny noise? -well it wasn't ME!) but very little else has gone wrong.
One more thing is that the windscreen frame is big and a bit of a blind spot when cornering.
In all, a great little run around, in which I feel safe and secure, knowing that the roll bars will keep my brain inside my skull incase of accident.
Happy motoring!
Sugarlily ;-)

I had a KA as my first car bit of a mistake having a five grand car at the age of 17 & that poor little thing got some stick it got dented after about 2 months & wrote off after about 7 months now i feel really terrible but the car is too small for me & my shopping i think i buy just too many clothes but its a car i never felt safe in because it is very tinny & found no protection in it what so ever i'd prob consider getting a sport ka but probably would get a peugeot i have gone off fords

I sit tall and find some cars don't have headroom - and if you push driver seat back to get tummy room there is too long to the pedals - most comfortable cars have been Rover Group - but no car is comfortable all the time!…- ♥♥ - jes ≈≈≈≈{; -)-{{::::: |||||< ♥♥

It really must be a compact car if it fits into a 12cm wide garage. And in that case what a compact lady you must be to fit into it. Duncan
