Our Mondeo has been a disaster from the start, it really has. It was bought to replace an old Nissan Bluebird. There's something wrong with the car all the time, one thing's fixed, and another thing goes. It breaks down regularly. When we got this car, it had only done about 70,000 miles - nothing for a diesel, but we've had trouble with it from the start. It's the most sluggish Turbo Diesel i've ever been in, it's an embarassment. The garage sees more of it than we do. The build quality is crap, and there's always funny rattling noises coming from everywhere. The Japanese cars are the most reliable. Call me boring, but i'd rather have stuck with my Nissan Bluebird.

Your experiences couldn't be more different from mine. I do find myself agreeing with you on the performance front (although wouldn't go so far as to call it an embarassment), but in reliability terms, mine has been faultless. It's now the wrong side of 100,000 miles and doesn't squeak or rattle, and has never let us down. Handling and ride are also superb on ours. A lovely smooth, supple ride with surprisingly sharp handling when the going gets twisty. I guess they really do vary a lot!
