The first thing I noticed was the awesome space in the car; it had an almost luxurious feel to it after being in a corsa. I also noticed the lovely sound that came from under the bonnet of this rather surprising family car.
when I first went looking for a bigger car I never thought that ied be seen dead in this car as its not the thing to be seen in when your only 18 and I didn't think that it would do much for my street cred, but ounce you get past the bulky outer shell of the car you find one of the most comfortable car I have ever been in. the sets are large and hold you well when you go around the corners, the cars response is second to none even though it is a long car, the inter of the car is tastefully decorated and gives the impression of a much more expensive car than itself.
If you need to transport a small army (i.e. the family) I think that this car is ideal. with comfortable size sets that will seat 5 people comfortably (unlike most 5 seated cars) and a good size boot to put all there junk in. the one day I was very brave and took the g.frend and her cosines in to town shopping, when we got back to the car I was amazed how much shopping we had fitted in to the car and still had room for more!
However the front of this car is letdown by the cheep looking plastics that seem to spoil the front of the car. In there is also a constant rattle in the back of the car that is coming from the exhorts bracket that I have replaced numerous times and the speedo cable clicks after 50mph. But you have to understand that a car that has done 120k miles is going to have a 1 or 2 faults, even so these faults spoil some of the comforts of this car.
the outside of the car looks very bulky and the quality of finish on the paint work is very poor with patches inside the door that had been missed.
the power on this car I thought was awesome I got in it and it went like a rocket with very little loss of accl up to 100mph.
mechanically I have never had a fault, it has never failed to start and has always started on the 1st or 2nd time the engine has turned over. apart from the recommended services and changing the brakes and tyres no mechanical part has had to been replaced since ive had the car.
a let down on this car is the amount of fuel that it uses. this car is absolutely awesome on fuel when its on the motorway but if you are just nipping around here and there (like me) then you'll find that you'll have to fill up almost every other day. I think at the moment im getting about 35 - 40 mpg but im hoping that ounce ive changer the filters on the car that this will go up.
I bought the car not thinking about the cost of running it but when I realised that I was going to be an 18 year old trying to get insurance for a 1.8L 16V car I cringed, but it wasn't as bad as I thought. The insurance company quoted me £1300 that may seem a lot but when you considering I was paying £998 for a 1.0L corsa that is pretty good. Just to compare the prices with other cars I got quotes for the same size engine in an astra, a layon and a galaxy and they all came out about £2000, so I stuck to the mondaeo.
When I got the car I paid £1700 but now you can get the same model for about £1000 and less, I think for what you get out of this car that I had a bargain
Advantages: Good engine and Cheap to repair for its size Disadvantages: its expensive to Tax... o well
Back in 1996 i had the need to change my car (Fiat Tipo) due to certain engine problems that i wont go into. After much deliberation i decided to splash out a bit of money and get a larger car to accomodate the growing family commitments i had at the time. During a wet sunday afternoon i wandered into the local SGL garage and was taken imediatly by a Brand New Mondeo, due to low funds i decided a Blue 1.8 LX on the forecort was a much better option. ... ...it home. The power from the 1.8 engine easily (115 BHP) propelled the car which to be honest is not the lightest around becouse of its size with great easy and the power stearing was very responsive.
In the years since buying the car i have had no major problems at all just the usual brakes, tyres and exhaust replacements, front brakes and disks cost £70 inc fitting, tyres are 175/65 R14 and the exhaust i think cost me around £75 inc fitting for ...

Advantages: Reliable, durable, nice to drive, easy to own Disadvantages: Depreciation
I have had my Mondeo Verona for 5 year now and have overall been very pleased. I bought her new in August 96 just before the Mk2 facelift came about. Local council decided to resurface the roads just after I took delivery and the stone chippings got both headlights (best part of £100 a shot to replace). That Passat advert about the lenses being made of a different material made me think for a while, but the VW is not as nice to drive.
Because I ... ...diesel version, but I took one for a test drive and could not get on with it. It might be more economical and durable but the engine was horrid. The throttle is more like an on off switch. Nothing much happened below 2,000 revs, and then it starts to wake up. At 2,500 is starts to feel alive, and by 3,000 it pulls like a train all the way to 4,000 when it hits a brick wall (I think it is governed in the lower gears). Well it is quite difficult to ...

Advantages: Cheap, reliable, low running costs, a must ford. Disadvantages: none to date
I was never really in to fords until I had 2 Sierra’s. I brought my Mondeo Mk2, W reg from a car supermarket, after careful consideration of other makes/models I chose my saloon 1.8 LX because of the spec. It was such a high specification For an LX model, it has, elec windows, mirrors, air con, ABS, traction control, rear vented discs, leather gear knob, heated screen, 3 rear head rests etc etc. I have only seen a few other LX models on the road ... ...basic. The ride quality amazes me, it makes you feel very safe, the car seems to sit high of the ground but the handling is superb. The steering is very good to, not to light or to stiff makes good parking, but seeing the front of the bonnet for a small person could be tricky.
The engines in my opinion are very good, I don’t tend to drive that fast but the power is there should you need it. I average between 38-41 mpg which I think is outstanding ...

...have to go to a Ford garage to maintain my 3yr guarantee. The servicing period is 12,500 miles I have just had a 25k service and with oil, filter and VAT it was £136.This is the only service I've had over the 12 month period. I also had the brake fluid changed, Fords recommend this every 2yrs, and new rear brake pads, this cost £125.

...where you look, uniform lines, Ford obviously going for the angled look this season.....with the exception of the oval clock smack bang in the middle if the Dash. It took a while to get used to this retro piece of design, but grew to like it. As far as the spaciousness goes, Tonnes of the stuff. I was used to space from my RX4 (please see alternate review!!!), and the Mondeo - although not as tall as the RX, provided considerable space, both for ... ...safe, spacious, sleek and a very quiet car. My only negative point about the vehicle is that it is starting to look dated. Mind you, as with the Focus, i'm sure that Ford will get their teeth into it soon, and make something beautiful, out of this already sturdy foundation. ...

Advantages: Spacious, good road handling, looks good Disadvantages: wind noise, rust, poor dealer service
My car is 2001 registration. I actually quite like the car in respect of being spacious and drives well. Maybe I got a bad model, other than looking good and driving well, I have had nothing but problems with this car.
I have had the following problems which spoil an otherwise good car - rust on the doors, seized brake calipers, cracking door seals, rust on the main strut under dashboard, loose bodywork panels (I suspect they were being economical in the use of fastenings), interior door handle finishes, vibration and steering rack.
The dealers will, under warranty, fix the problems relating to exterior paintwork but dont want to know of any of the other problems. The customer service people will tell you they will offer "goodwill" in respect of the other problems.
Generally this car was not a good purchase, my first and only ford. I ...
Advantages: Good Reliable Car Disadvantages: Cam Belt Needs to be Changed Every 36,000 miles
One of the best cars I've owned is the 1994 FordMondeo1.8 Turbo Diesel. I've had it for over 4 years now, but despite clocking up over 194,000 miles on it, I've had no major problems, and it's still going strong. It's excellent on fuel, and gets 50-55 miles to the gallon, and with these soaring petrol/diesel prices, it's definitely an advantage. The Mondeo has a nice body style, and a sunroof for those rare warm days. It comfortably seats 5 people, and because it's a hatchback, should you want to carry large items, the back seat folds down and gives you loads of room. With it's superb sound system, and smooth ride, driving the Mondeo is a pleasure. ...
The Mondeo diesel is the weak link in Ford's mid-ranger. It is proof that a fundamentally good car like the Mondeo can become a hopeless wastrel when fitted with the wrong engine. The 1.8 turbo diesel unit, which apparently began life in a pick-up truck, is ancient and agricultural. Diesel engine technology has left Ford well behind - surprising consider the investments made by Audi, VW, Peugeot et al. The engine is gutless with the turbo on song and positively arthritic off-boost. The turbo rev range is very brief and the boost comes on suddenly, which makes driving unpleasant, particularly around town. The limited range also make overtaking difficult and slow, usually requiring a gear change or two at some point. Handling is also blunted because this is a particularly heavy engine, which can make the nose run wide in corners ...
