These will on the whole have had extras installed at purchase, been well maintained and have a low mileage. This is of course a rule of thumb so do check for yourself. Please note, I am not writing about purchasing a Mondeo 2.0 from new as nobody will be doing this with this model of car now. The new Mondeo has taken over and therefore I am going to give my opinion here on buying this car second hand.
I have owned my Mondeo now for a little under a year and feel that now I have had time to weigh up pros and cons, it is a good time to share an opinion.

Previously I had been driving an Escort that was coming up to having 100,000 miles on the clock so I made the choice to change my car for something with a lower mileage. We now had a third child so something that offered a little more comfort and space in the back was also a consideration. Let me tell you I didn't jump at this car without considering other options. I spent weeks trawling around dealers and car yards looking at what was on offer but the most obvious thing to spot was in the large saloon market, the Mondeo represents excellent value for money as a second hand purchase.
If you go to a Ford dealership the best buys, with other models as well as Mondeos, are the ex-mobility cars. These will on the whole have had extras installed at purchase, been well maintained and have a low mileage. This is of course a rule of thumb so do check for yourself. I waited a few weeks for the right specification and model to come in but it was an ex-mobility. My purchase was for marginally over £6000 and had at the time 22,000 miles. It was in superb condition and was to the day three years old.
Let's take a look at the specification and features that my money bought.
ENGINE My Mondeo came with the two litre petrol engine. Now, compared to a Passat say, this is quite an underspecced two litre engine. It is noticeably quicker and smoother than the 1.6 engine in my Escort and I feel quite a fun drive but I have had friends and colleagues advise me that the turbo diesel model is a better buy. I am satisfied with the engine performance but after an initial recognition that it was better than my previous car relatively unexcited by it's performance.
FUEL As with most cars this takes unleaded fuel. Now, I foolishly thought that it would cost fractionally more than my 1.6 engined Escort to run as the engine was slightly bigger. It does not work like this ... my Mondeo is very expensive to run. This car laughs in the face of environmentalists and drinks petrol .... loads of it! My fuel bill has jumped by about 50% per month. The thing is ... I'm not convinced it's quite worth that much extra to have the larger engine.
ELECTRIC PACK Here is where the Mondeo shines compared to similarly priced competitors. There is obviously the ubiquitous electric windows at the front but, catch this for a list of extras at the price quoted above: CD/radio as standard Electric adjustable driver's seat Front and rear heated windscreens Electric adjustable wing mirrors Now, other similarly aged and significantly more expensive saloons from other manufacturers just don't quite cut it when comparing the features above.
THE DRIVE The car handles well. It is fairly low to the road and seems to revel in taking corners with pace. There is a very confident feedback and I feel far more sure that this car is going to 'stick' than I felt with previous cars. It may well be the low profile tyres that add to this sense of control. See below for more information on the low profile tyres.
MAINTENANCE Now, I'm not an expert on how cars work so I've been more than a little disappointed at the costs incurred by this car. As mentioned above it has low profile tyres. For those not in the know these are significantly wider on the road surface but thinner from tyre edge to wheel. Consequently they often look flat even though they aren't. They seem quite cool and I'm told it is good to have them. I'm not so sure ... the cheapest replacements in Kwik Fit are £120.00 each. This car has needed three new tyres so far this year on a mileage of just over 10,000. This strikes me as quite expensive rubber. In addition, it'e first MOT cost a staggering £150.00 as the front wishbones (something to do with the suspension) needed replacing. Prior to the summer, the air conditioning needed recharging and that was a further £70.00 bill. The suspension by the way, so the guy doing the MOT tells me, is a common fault on these cars and I shouldn't have been surprised. Now, they never told me that when I bought it.
OVERALL The car is a large and confortable family car. The CD player, air conditioning and other electric toys are fun in the short term but if I'm honest I could probably live without them. (With the possible exception of the air conditioning ... that was a real breeze, literally, in our baking summer road holiday to Europe.) I was delighted with the purchase price but for such a low mileage and relativiely new car it does seem to have brought with it a fair few expenses. The tyres by the way are not even available on the continent so when I needed a replacement in France I had the choice of buy four different tyres or cruise at 50mph on the spare tyre ... great! Overall, I do still feel like I have an enjoyable car but I have to say I'm not many bills away from feeling like it could be an expensive mistake. I would definitely go for turbo diesel in future not so much for the power as for the fuel cost reduction.
I hope this opinion is helpful and look forward to your feedback.
Advantages: Good looks, versatile large boot, handling. Disadvantages: For us none.
...I doubt that Ford as a Car Manufacturer need much of an introduction. An American company they have adapted over the years thorugh all the up's and down's that the car market has been through and I think they have come out a winner and now as well as the Ford Motor Company they also own Aston Martin, Jaguar and own 25% of Mazda. When is a Ford a Ford you may ask yourself, I think that the influence of the other companies under the umbrella of Ford ... ...without naming the commercial vehicles Ford make.
Some of these Cars are now classics and are treated as such. The famous Blue Badge has now become a legend and I think Henry would be proud.
* The Ford Mondeo.
The Mondeo first appeared in 1993 and was designed with the Granada market in mind, sales rep's and executives as well as families found it appealing but to be honest we had a Granada at the time and we didn't think it would suit us but ...

...which I bought from a Ford dealer for £11,000. I ran this car for 2 years, which doubled the mileage from 30,000 when I bought it, to 60,000 when I sold it - yet I still managed to get £8,750 in p/x from the supplying dealer when I traded it in for my next car - an Escort Cosworth. The car was as tough as nails - I did not spend a single penny on reapirs, the only costs were mot, tyres and servicing. It was the most pleasant car interior I have ever ... ...None of the usual Ford quality problems come into play on the Mondeo - no creaks or rattles inside - the interior components are compiled from good quality noise-reducing materials, and the whole car oozes quality from using the door handle, to the thoughtful vanity mirror lamps, footwell lights, and the lights-on alarm, which is a pleasant aircraft-style bleep. Also, these cars don't rust - compare any K reg mondeo with the fiestas, escorts, or ...

...MECHANICALLY:
The bog-standard Ford engine has been set up for good low-speed torque (good) with a distinct 'step' in the performance above 5000rpm - a figure rarely reached in normal driving. Coupled with a decent gearbox, the tall gear ratios (26mph/1000rpm in top), means the engine is doing barely 3000 rpm at motorway speeds. The plus side of this tall gearing is that the fuel economy is astonishingly good. I used to do a 50 mile round trip to ... ...cruise control virtually all the time (set to 50mph), I was regularly getting over 40mpg, whilst any journeys on the motorway (again, using cruise control set at 75 mph), would result in 44mpg!! I'd consider that an excellent, near-diesel, level of economy for a large, heavy family car. For anyone who doubts those figures, you are welcome to check the credit-card receipts and I should point out that country roads at 6.45am tend to be pretty much ...

The Ford Mondeo is hard to escape in the press at the moment. The weekly and monthly car magazines write about it all the time, there are adverts in the papers and a new one on TV. So, by now I will presume that you all know that Ford have an all-new Mondeo, unless, of course, you have been living in space for a while.
I may as well admit up front that I can’t stand Ford cars. I hate them more than Nissans, but less than Vauxhalls. Their “new-edge” ... ...This is not so. Ford cars are reliable and they handle extremely well. It’s just that they are ugly with cheap interiors and everyone has one.
By the time my da got this car out for a test drive at the weekend, I was already sick of the look of the new Mondeo. It retains elements of the “radical” looking Ford Focus, but only a few. It is still the Mundano in terms of styling that I know and hate, albeit a Mundano that carries on little from its ...

I have been driving the Ford Mondeo Ghia X estate for 18 months now. We purchased this particular model because it is has a 2000ltr engine which gives great performance, especially on the overtaking (plenty in reserve). The ride is really comfortable with the added bonus of air con. Our model also has an electric sun roof, electric windows, 6 cd autochanger, ABS and cruise control. It is one of the longest/widest estates on the road, thus making ... ...Ideally it is a cruising car with plenty of load space, ideal for holidays. I think the insurance is on the high side, about £500pa, but worth it. The average mpg for us is 36mpg, with cruise control on a longer journey of about 100 miles it was up to 40mpg. If you are thinking of purchasing a large family car with a bit of umph under the bonnet without being over the top, this is the car for you. ...

Well where to begin, bought my mondeo from a mate who wanted a quick sale before travelling the globe. Got the car for a steal £5000 24,000 miles on the clock in 2005. Had the car just over a year now and its been an absolute dream.
Lets start with its looks, modern styling and a great colour moondust silver. Alloy wheels, front fog lights, front and rear heated screens, electric mirrors, remote central locking, power steering, abs, air conditioning, ice and frost warning indicators, air bags all over the car front back and side curtains, fords IPS system (intelligent protection system), cd/radio all as standard.
Inside, the car is massive, I've got three kids, 2 still in car seats and with the third in the middle they all look tiny and have plenty of room, so much I don't get kicked in the back anymore. The best part is they ...
Advantages: hard to find Disadvantages: its a mondeo
This is my second review, now I have had the car a bit longer, Like in my first review, still not impressed with the cheap and nasty plastic finish.
Engine wise, lacks power, supposed to be 145BHP, feels more like 100bhp diesel, quiet enough, no intrusive noises, but no guts, even dropping down a gear makes little difference, some yes, but not responsive enough, no further comment on that, MPG, well a bit better than my Volvo if you remember 200BHP turbo, but only by about 6MPG, Renauly Laguna X reg 2.0 ltr, was miles ahead.
Bodywork, rust on dvrs door, interior and exterior, rubber seal on sill on O/S falling off, not found anything else to date.
Interior, drivers seat showing lots of wear at 69000 miles, leather cracking, interior plastic, disgusting, shows every mark and scratch, and water marked, cannot clean it, looks horrible ...
Advantages: Comfy, spacious, good looks and so many electrical toys! Disadvantages: Build quality not excellent, economy not great on 2.0 petrol engine
First of all, yes it is a Ford, and it is a Mondeo - that will immediately put off all the people who aren't prepared to look past the name, and for the money that could buy my FordMondeo2.0 Ghia X 2001 car, will instead buy a twelve year old BMW or Mercedes with only a quarter of the equipment and smaller engine, just for the badge.
I like my car, admittedly is isn't perfect and there's lots of reasons to buy a more upmarket expensive car like build quality, nicer feeling materials the badge, etc etc. If however like many people you are on a budget, for the money, there's not much better. Its quite reliable, very spacious with good looks and features inside and out.
