Car Reviews of Ford Mondeo »
Great value, reliable, just keeps on going
Advantages: Relaxed drive, reliable, good handling, loads of space Disadvantages: mass-market looks could lead to being lost in a crowded car park
I bought this Mark1 in Oct 1996 from Fords of Winsford supermarket - absolutely no regrets with it. Had 17k on the clock @ 9 months, now (Aug 2008) has 210K ! There is a bit of rust now visible, but hardly surprising after the mileage and chips picked up!.
The engine's very responsive, runs like a dream on Shell V-Power (35mpg around town, 40+ on motorways). Apart from the obvious consumables - tyres, oil, wiperblades - there has not been much major ... ...(Original) Clutch failed @ 208k, crank position sensor failed & replaced @ 209K. Other major expense has been limited to exhaust (one middle section, two back boxes) and two headlamps (yellowed lenses). Apparently the lenses alone can be replaced (check out the Mondeo Enthusiasts group), but I took the easy way out!
Regular servicing has helped!
HUGE amount of capacity, probably only beaten in it's class by the 2008 Mondeo!
A good driving position ...

Mondeo 1.8TD, Cheap to buy,Run, Reliable and won't let you down
Advantages: Cheap to buy, easily maintained. Disadvantages: Bumpers are easily damaged.
We have owned three of these and can't fault them, Good performance and plenty of room inside with a big plus that they are reliable and are cheap to repair and maintain.
I would go for the Aircon model for when the sun does actually shine and it should not cost you much more for extras such as CD player alloy wheels etc.
The estate versions are a particularly good workhorse with a large easy accessible load area with the split rear seats folded ...

Ford Mondeo 1.6 - passes MOT with no problems
Advantages: Good runner Disadvantages: In the higher road tax bracket
...at us.
Being a Ford we have been able to purchase any parts we require for it from any local car parts stores and they have not been overly expensive considering the age of the car.
We have found this to be a comfortable, affordable large car which has not cost us excessively on any minor repairs that have needed to be done.
It is a pleasure to drive, especially after driving a Vauxhall Astra of the same age with no power-steering. The fuel consumption ...

Advantages: good looks and performance to match, comfort and handling Disadvantages: slightly weak brakes, some running costs
...that sports the sensual ford racing blue (some may say imperial blue) and a modified rear bumper alowing two exit pipes from the exaust system and also not forgetting the lovely 17inch multi spoke wheels which in my mind makes the car somehow look more masculine and butch compared to that of the st24 which is also a fantastic car. over all the car looks more agressive and purpose full and we havent got to the best bit the engine!!! however i will ... ...im predjudice because im a ford nut but it was so noticable to me i couldnt leave it out. any way this isnt about slagging off performance vectras and i hope it doesnt appear that way because thats not what i wanted and as ive said above the two rivals are very good cars but if you want somthing that is great and that little bit ahead with a good road performance car heritage with the likes of the cossie's and rs's with a bit of exclusivity thrown ...

Ford Mondeo Mk II 2.5 L V6 Ghia 24v Estate
Advantages: goes like a rocket, vast, comfortable Disadvantages: niggles with exhaust, low mpg, high insurance
My R-reg specimen flies, transporting kids, garden equipment, single beds (intact, with the boot shut), tows a caravan, swallows huge loads of junk, conveys muddy dogs... Suspension is adequate, handling good, acceleration phenomenal, braking adequate (abs and traction control a must). Retro-fit exhausts a bind as they're apt to knock underneath and has a nasty habit of consuming front tyres, if the tracking isn't regularly checked. Fully-comp with ... ...years' no claims (urban), so get a quote BEFORE you buy one of these. Averages 25mpg in town and 40+mpg on a motorway run which, at the end of the day, is what this acomplished tourer/rep-mobile was built for. Love mine to bits. Can't wait to try the latest model: this one'll be a tough act to follow! ...
