Advantages Advantages Very pleasant to drive in

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not pleasant to look at

I would have love to have been there when the first Ford Scorpios were produced. The assembled mass of workers must have felt their jaws drop when they looked at it. Not at the beauty but at the ugliness of it. Was there no-one who, like in the Emperor’s New Clothes, said there is something not quite right here. The problem was not one of nudity but the clothes the Scorpio came in. There it must have stood bug-eyed, a huge fat backside, a mass of unrelieved contourless metal with oversize featureless bumpers. That the Scorpio failed to sell in the huge numbers of the Granada it replaced ... more

Advantages Advantages cheap to buy, so smooth

Disadvantages Disadvantages reliability, few pattern parts, fuel consumption

I've owned a scorpio for 3 months now, and I still like it, which is unusual for me. First impressions were only reasonable. It had a nasty vibration coming through the cabin at anything over 55, it knocked going over bumps, and returned 18mpg with its duff thermostat. However, after a £400 service, which replaced the two front wishbones (balljoints not available seperately), the thermostat, and the anti roll bar bushes, it was good. Powerful, smooth, and planted. So of course, 10 days later it died on me at the main south terminal roundabout at Gatwick airport. The engine wiring harness had ... more

Advantages Advantages Very roomy. Easy to park with power steering and very nice to look at. It looks more top of the range than it is. Not heavy on handling, quick at pulling away.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I have an estate version of the Scorpio 2.3 which is also automatic. It is very smooth to drive. It has electric windows and central locking both controlled by the driver. It has a very roomy interior with lots of leg room, also attractive upholstery and dash. I'm a childminder, so I use my car a lot. It always starts first time and gives me a reminder plenty of time before my petrol gets really low. The boot is very large - plenty of space for push-chairs or prams; both singles and doubles. I can also fit a lot of shopping in the back. This is the first Ford car I have owned, but won't ... more

Advantages Advantages Better than any BMW

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I have owned a P registerd Scorpio for 3 months ,and it is far better than any BMW or Jaguar or for that matter any Mercedes that exists today. It is also very smooth to drive and is fully loaded with all the extras that you could possibly desire ,add to that relatively low maintenance bills and a little known thing concerning the 2.3 engine,it was designed by Cosworth as well as the 2.9 v6 24 valve monster and it has been described as the most refined engine that ford have ever made. There is no doubt that the only country that can produce a better car than the scorpio is the USA which is ... more
