I have owned several BMW's, Mercedes and Audi but have never felt at such ease and comfort as I do in my 1996 Ford Scorpio Ultima. it pulls away effortlessly and quietly but put it into Sport Mode and stick your foot down to the floor and it literally growls like a lion as it accelerates pushing your whole body back into the lush soft leather seats whilst Queen plays on the 8 Speaker Stereo. What more could you want, looks? Some say that it could look a lot better. I really do not agree. It seems like half of today's cars have copied the looks of the Scorpio anyway and if they didn't I still find the looks of this car different and therefore interesting. I honestly cannot think of a single car available today with the same spec for the same price as a Granada Scorpio Ultima with the 2.9L 24v Cosworth Engine.
I suppose that I should have given more detail on the car so here it is.If you are buying a car for petrol economy then don't look at the Scorpio Cosworth. It returns a sorry 20 mpg around town, if your lucky, and not much more on a long run but it will get you there quicker than most cars and in a great deal more comfort.
Ford improved the chassis on the Scorpio so the handling is far better than the old Granada, especially with the traction control. Parking is a doddle with the tilting passenger rear view mirror and the incredibly light steering. It could do with parking sensors though as the bumpers are easily damaged.
Space is at a premium in these cars with a huge load space capable of holding a couple of fridges. There is plenty of leg room for passengers and driver, come to that there is plenty of arm, head and shoulder room as well.
It has the best Climate Control that I have had. It is easy to set the temperature that you want and it stays at that temperature using six different sensors, including a sun sensor. I have been told that using air conditioning makes the car bad on petrol. Not with this car as it is pretty bad already and the air con doesn't seem to make a difference.
Although comfort in driving is superb both on the motorway or in the town these cars are best suited to the motorway. I just set the cruise control to about 70mph and sit back and enjoy the ride. I have taken it up to 120mph but then i chicken out. Even at that speed the car is stable and well behaved it is me who gets a little anxious.
A word about the fish eyed lights. They are brilliant and seem to have brighter and a more intense light beam than most cars. They may not agree with everyones taste but they do the job better than most.
It is worth investing in a computer cable for your laptop for this car. You can reset the fault lights, diagnose your own faults reducing garage bills, and remap the on board computer. You do not have to be a computer genius either.
In conclusion, I have had the BMW 740i & 535i, the Mercedes 500L, the Volvo 940/960 and the Jaguar XJ6 4.0L but this car feel and drives far superior to them all. If your not looking for economy then you cannot go wrong with these cars.

Someone didn't read my review properly. I said that "I honestly cannot think of a single car available today with the same spec for the same price as a Granada Scorpio Ultima with the 2.9L 24v Cosworth Engine"
The BMW 5 Series will cost you twice that of a Scorpio and the Vovlo and Audi are both more expensive so I stand by my claim. The horrid old Fishface is better value for money than any other car in it's class.
