Advantages: wonderful comfort and solid safety Disadvantages: unstylish
An admission first of all: I am a devotee of the Blue Oval. Here's my previous: Mk 1 Cortina, Zephyr, Mk IV Cortina, Granada, Scorpio 2.3 and now the Scorpio Ultima. ( I have had other affairs: Standard, Mini, Marina (ugh!), Talbot Alpine and BMW but they were only passing flirtations), At this writing (May 2008) I have had the car 10 years and it is, without doubt, the best car I have ever had. It was 11 months old when I bought it from Dovercourt, ......by Dovercourt's finance director who had put about 14,000 miles on the clock, so it was nicely run in with long runs. My use has been more modest, averaging about 7,000 miles a year. It has now done close to 100,000 miles. Have I had problems? I have had to replace components like pads, power steeering pump, aircon condenser, alternator, steering rack but nothing that I would call major. I have had the car serviced annually by the main dealer who ... Read review
Advantages: Better than any BMW Disadvantages: None
...the most refined engine that ford have ever made. There is no doubt that the only country that can produce a better car than the scorpio is the USA which is without doubt the ultimate car producing nation. My scorpio is a manual but although there is nothing wrong with it you can't beat an automatic. What would an immaculate merc or bmw have cost me I only paid £1000 for this. ... Read review
Advantages: Fantastic chrome grill, reliability, comfortable cruising, air-conditioning, walnut trimmings Disadvantages: Its not a racer
...detest. WHY OH WHY DID FORD decide to bring out the mark 2 grill with most of the chrome removed. What a sin!! The inside is no compromise. The walnut trimmings make you realise you are in a luxury class vehicle. I bought one without the sun-roof but with air-con instead. What a bonus that was, very cool in the summer, very warm in the winter. I have had no problems mechanically, certainly no more than I would expect from the car. Had a very cheap ......Cost me £275. The drive is perfect for chauffering, smooth and very quiet. The only down side when driving is the acceleration at low speeds. Get above 60mph and you are flying. Top speed? 135mph. and this is just the bottom of the range 2L Ghia. On average I get 28mpg. Drops to 22 in the town. Rises to 32 at a steady 70. Another disadvantage? a very long bonnet, too long by 6" to the unsuspecting inexperienced driver! Another downer - I wish ... Read review
Advantages: I have the Estate so space in the big advantage Disadvantages: Fuel consumption is not good but you can't have everything
...I do in my 1996 Ford Scorpio Ultima. it pulls away effortlessly and quietly but put it into Sport Mode and stick your foot down to the floor and it literally growls like a lion as it accelerates pushing your whole body back into the lush soft leather seats whilst Queen plays on the 8 Speaker Stereo. What more could you want, looks? Some say that it could look a lot better. I really do not agree. It seems like half of today's cars have copied the ......deal more comfort. Ford improved the chassis on the Scorpio so the handling is far better than the old Granada, especially with the traction control. Parking is a doddle with the tilting passenger rear view mirror and the incredibly light steering. It could do with parking sensors though as the bumpers are easily damaged. Space is at a premium in these cars with a huge load space capable of holding a couple of fridges. There is plenty of leg room ... Read review
Advantages: Cheap luxury Disadvantages: Ford mechanics don`t have "know how"
...big + to the local Ford mechanics i found after asking around the Ford dealers for experiences about the Scorpio Cosworth before buying it as the most of them didn`t seem to know anything about the Scorpio but then i got lucky and found a dealer that has imported many of these models to Finland and could tell me what i should watch out for (Electrical problems and leaking gearboxes mainly) i made my decision and found my Scorpio..the car is absolutely ......my opinion economical to it`s size and fully loaded with equipment you don`t actually find in new cars...Security is a keyword in the Scorpio...Airbags,Sips,Seatbelts strengtners and of course the weight of the car makes it a safe car to travel in and the 207 Hp under the bonnet also helps moving the car quite fast from point A to B... ...
