Ok I have to say that I have been seriously looking forward to this game since I heard back at the launch of the 360 console that it would be coming it's way. I was a huge fan of the original game, lots of custom bits for all the cars, being able to make the car look pretty individual just by changing the bumpers and wheels and thats before you even began work on the transfers which allowed you to create virtually any design you wanted. The racing action was good, it looked great, live options were good with a wide variety of races available including uphill, downhill, track, point to point and offroad. So when I got my hands on the shiny limited edition box set of Forza 2 I couldn't wait to enjoy all that was and much more... how dissapointed was I??
Forza Motorsport 2 offers an almost real driving experience with over 300 different cars, (or so the blurb tells us, it actual seems to be dozens of versions of the same cars, lots of 911's etc), real time telemetary of how the car is behaving as you race, (a nice touch if you can understand half of it), new tracks, (although many old ones have gone like the point to point hill sections for example) and a new improved transfer designer (with good copy/paste options but less control over the actual tranfer shape, by this I mean they have taken out some of the skew/perspective option). All in all, apart from the stunning HD graphics and new colours etc I am not sure this new version of a classic Xbox game is actually an improvement.
Those who liked the gameplay of the original game won't be dissapointed as it still plays well and don't get me wrong I have spent many hours playing this game already and I am not bored yet. Its just that I am left wanting for some of the old games features and variety of tracks. In modifying your cars you can still get some body parts although they are often limited to Forza's own aero parts only, (what happened to the Wings West bits etc?) the paint colours are great and give you good choice as does the increase number of transfers on offer which allow you to build up each surface of your chosen car to 100's of layers, the end result of which is often stunning and has to b seen to be believed although much patience and hours of time is needed to achieve this. Those with time to spare can now create groups of layers to reuse later and on other cars which is a nice addition and can save you time in the long run when designing your cars. I just wish they hadn't taken out all the body part options that helped those with less time make their cars look different from the rest when playing online. Other nice features allow you to photo your cars during solo play and upload them to the website for others to see, check them out, some look amazing! You can also gift and auction cars online to other avid players which is great for community spirit and getting your hands on that illusive Ferrari P4!!
All in all this game should have been more than it is, its a worthy update to the original but not a sequel in my opinion, to much that was good in the first is missing and the new is not a big enough step. If you are a hardened racing fan you'll still love it but don't expect wild game play and pick up and play interest for the masses, the best of the game comes from the satisfaction of designing wild paint schemes and having others marvel at them online and this my friends takes time.
Buy this if you love car racing, don't buy it if you just want an arcade racer, PGR3 is still the best for that.

Advantages: Runs at a smooth 60fps, over 300 cars, expansive career mode and excellent car physics Disadvantages: Hard to find customised cars in the auction house, More tracks would have been good.
