Advantages Advantages 4 novel-length King stories in one volume.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some cliché ideas and narration.

Idly flicking through the Stephen King section on Amazon, I happened to come across 'Four Past Midnight' - a collection of King stories I'd never read before. I purchased it, thinking that 4 stories would be a quick, but entertaining read. So, when it arrived on my doorstep I was somewhat surprised by the hefty packaging and brick shaped book. At a total of 676 pages these stories can, in no way, pass off as 'short'. Realistically, if King had extended them slightly they could all have been sold as novels of a reasonable length. 'Four Past Midnight' allows King to prove to an audience that he ... more

Advantages Advantages the first story is fantastic

Disadvantages Disadvantages the other 3 don't quite live up to it's example

"At midnight comes the point of balance. Of danger. The instant between two beats of a heart, an alternative reality can slip through, like a blade between the ribs, and switch you into a new and terrifying world. Four Past Midnight: four heart-stopping accounts of that moment when the familiar world fractures beyond sense, the fragments spinning away from the desperate clutching reaches of sanity…" As the blurb suggests, Four Past Midnight is another spine-tingler from Stephen King. The edition I have runs to nearly 1000 pages, so it does look a bit off-putting at first. However, as it's ... more

Advantages Advantages Book scares you into uncontrolled bowel movements

Disadvantages Disadvantages May cause the reader to go into shock

I LOVE THIS BOOK! Yet another masterpiece from the master of macabre himself composed of four chilling short stories or novellas. If you love horror stories that can drive you into paranoia and have you sleeping with the lights on THIS IS THE PERFECT NOVEL TO READ. This book is composed of very different and intensely chilling novellas. These are: The Langoliers: This begins where passengers who have been sleeping on a plan wake up to find they are alone and that those who were awake have disappeared; and I'm not going to give out any spoilers to you, but I am going to tell you that from there ... more

    Advantages Advantages Well written.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Requires some level of maturity

This is a very well written book. The stories are short but very interesting. A good read on a sunday afternoon. The first story 'the langoliers' is very chilling and quite odd in places but was by far my favourite story in the book. 'Secret Window, Secret Garden' Is well written and will suprise the reader. The library policeman is a very odd story. It is in parts quite mature and in parts unbelievable. But somehow Stephen King makes it work. The Sun Dog is a very creepy story that is sure to please. In a nutshell, this book is a very good read for anyone who can handle a bit of rape and ... more

Advantages Advantages The stories aren't too long

Disadvantages Disadvantages There isn't more of them!

Buying The Book I bought this book from a charity shop to further my Stephen King Collection, I have alot of his books now, some of which I love and some I absolutely hate and having read them once will never read them again! This book however was one of the ones I loved. The Book Four Past Midnight is a collection of four stories - titled one past midnight, two past midnight, three past midnight and four past midnight. Each one also has it's own sub-title. One Past Midnight - The Langoliers The Langoliers is a story about a red-eye flight, something happens midair and they end up in some kind ... more
