***I would just like to make clear form the start that I am speaking about the ‘Big Softie Cookie Bars’ which are chocolate and cherry flavour. Fox’s also make Big Softie cookies in other flavours that are circular and not individually wrapped. I cannot comment on what these are like as I have never tried them so the following only applies to the bars.***
I spotted these a couple of days ago in a convenience shop near my house. I haven’t ever seen them in supermarkets before but this may just be that I am usually so overwhelmed by the huge selection that I fail to notice them.
Anyway they caught my eye because on the outer packet they have a sign in the corner saying ‘97% Fat Free’. Well I’m not on a diet but if you offer me a biscuit with so little fat in, the answer will, for certain, be a resounding ‘bring it on!’
So I purchased a packet for 79p (the RRP may differ as I brought them from a convenience store which is usually more expensive). For this price I got 6 ‘Big Softie Cookie Bars’.
They come in a purple and white outer packet with the Fox’s logo on and the name ‘Big Softies’. There is also a 97% fat free banner as I mentioned earlier and a picture of what look like. From this picture I was fooled into believing that I might have actually found a decent ‘low-fat’ product.
I was hoping for some very tasty cookie bars, unfortunately Fox’s did not provide.

After reading the description and looking at the picture on the packet I was expecting a chewy chocolate cookie but when I actually tried the product I felt that Fox’s had grossly mislead me. On biting into the cookie bar it is certainly chewy but in such a way that it is more tough than anything.
It doesn’t taste chocolatey as you expect but I can’t really say what they taste like because they were so bland, that they didn’t seem to have any definite flavour at all.
As for the cherry pieces that they promised, all I could see were tiny flecks of something that doesn’t even look like cherry-it appeared purple. The taste of these ‘succulent cherry pieces’? Nope sorry, I’m afraid I couldn’t taste them at all.
However I did notice visible pieces of sugar in the bar-so it was basically like an uncooked dough but it was also unpleasantly tough.
I actually checked the Best Before date on these because I thought that they may have been past the sell by date- it was the only explanation I could think of for why they would be so awful, but they were well within the date so they must always be generally disgusting.
On examining the nutritional information you can see that they are low in calories and fat but I didn’t find this surprising as the cookie bars are very small far from being ‘Big Softies’ more like ‘Tiny Toughies’
Anyway for those of you are still reading about these foul little creations here’s the info;
Unsuitable for wheat, gluten, soya and nut allergy sufferers- worry not you are certainly not missing out.
I’m afraid there is really nothing more to say about these except that they are a waste of money and completely unsatisfying.
Consumers steer clear, regardless of whether these are low fat or not if you actually want something which tastes of anything at all look elsewhere as, in my opinion, these will certainly fail to satisfy- a complete let down.

Will avoid them! Unfortunately most of the low-fat snack bars I've tried are tiny (hence why less fat I suppose!) and bland. I'll stick to having full-fat versions every once in a while! Thanks, Triciax
