Advantages Great food, good prices at lunchtime

Disadvantages Expensive at night, soup never changes

I have visited a few Frankie and Bennies in Glasgow and all are pretty much the same. I do enjoy eating here but like most places it does have its downsides.

ABOUT FRANKIE AND BENNIES

Frankie and Bennies was opened in 1995 and are Italian American style. They are all decorated the same, with dark wood and all play the same music whichi is 1950's American Pop. Nice to listen too if you only go occasionally but am sure the staff must get fed up listening to the same CDs over and over. The must is all available on CD and can be bought in restaurant.

THE FOOD

Frankie and Bennies does a breakfast menu, a lunch menu and the main menu. Having never tried the breakfast menu I can't comment on what this is like but it does look good with choices such as pancakes, full breakfast and eggs benedict amongst others.

The lunch menu is only served until 5pm Monday to Friday. Unfortunately not at weekends. This is pretty good value with 1 course for £5.95, 2 courses for £7.95 and 3 courses for £8.95. All include unlimited soft drinks. The lunch menu is just a small selection from the main menu at a cheaper price so its definately worth getting in there before 5pm to save some cash. Starters include Bruschetta, chicken strips (which are delicious) and mushroom crostini. The only drawback there is the soup. No matter what day you go or which of the 3 restaurants I go to the soup is always tomato and basil. Never changes.

Main courses include pizza, pasta, calzones, burgers and a wide choice of other things (not all on lunch menu) such as lamb shank, New York chicken and salads. I have tried a wide range of things from here and all have been delicious.

The desserts are to die for. Can definately recomment the cheesecake!

THE SERVICE

I have always found the staff to be very welcoming and friendly. The kitchens are all open so you can see the chefs cook, which I like just because it means I can see the cleanliness of the kitchen. As soon as someone leaves, the staff clear the table and give it a good clean before resetting it.

Overall I do like dining here, but do think it is a bit expensive if you go in the evening. The food is good but the menu never seems to change, although there is enough on it that you could try something different each time. Very nice for a wee lunch out with the girls (it also does great cocktails), but I'd be looking for something different if it were a special occasion.
