Decent-quality free email

Advantages: Fast; lots of ways to connect; free
Disadvantages: Experimental; sometimes down; small mailbox

I moved my email to MyRealBox in February 2002 after my ISP's webmail service started to become really slow. It's a free service run by Novell to test their NetMail product. It provides a fairly straightforward email service which can be accessed via the web, WAP, or through email clients such as Outlook Express (for the techies, you can access your account via IMAP as well as POP). There is a choice of two web-based interfaces, both of which are ...
...such as being able to organise your mail into folders, an address book, calendar and so on. It's also pretty fast. The service has a few drawbacks. You only get a 10Mb mailbox, which limits the amount of mail you can store. Because the site is used to experiment with new versions of NetMail it's sometimes down for new software to be installed. But this does mean it gets some good new features. On the whole this is one of the best free email services ...

More than a web based email service...

Advantages: More features than it's competitors
Disadvantages: None that I've found yet...

AnytimeNow's primary function is a web based email provider to be found at www.anytimenow.com. Their home page is well laid out detailing what is on offer alongside recent news items etc. From the homepage you can sign up for your free 30 day trial account, which is a very speedy process as they only ask for a proposed username and password along with your name. Your free account then allows you nearly full access to the service, with the only restrictions ...
...of the usual 50mb and no ability to publish your website which comes with the premium account. For me AnytimeNow has blown the competition out of the water. It's reliability has been 100% (unlike Hotmail) and it's customer service has been both speedy and accurate (unlike Hotmail). It contains all the features you'd expect from an email service and many more such as WAP access, virus and spam scanning, it will POP (POP = automatically collect mail ...

YAFWO - Yet Another Free Webmail Opinion

Advantages: Nice, tidy little webmail service.
Disadvantages: No complaints now that the .com site is back.

This is an opinion on http://mail.altavista.com and http://mail.altavista.co.uk I wanted a webmail account in order to set up an identity for an online game I was playing. I thought I'd try something other than hotmail so when I came across altavista's free webmail service I thought I'd try that. I started off at mail.altavista.com (so my address was dogscoff@altavista.com) - Setting up my account was very easy, with a minimum of personal details ...
...minutes. Sending and reading mail is easy, even with attachments, and it has some neat features- you can store your favourite addresses and have them on a drop down menu when composing mails. I was also impressed by the power and ease of use of the filtering feature - it's easy to split your incoming mail up by having it automatically searched for certain text in the subject, sender, message or by other criteria. You can then have each message deleted ...

basic can be better

Advantages: great simple layout!
Disadvantages: can be slow

...Well look no more because Freeze.com is a simple free email service here to serve! *Freeze* Freeze is a simple email site that has no huge text or rambling letters of terms and conditions! It is simple because it is layed out to make it easy to read and chop and change from place to place! It is powered by Chek.com, another email site. This is like word pad compared with windows! Simple but easy to use. *Layout* The top and left hand sides of ...
...the top and catagories down the sides. The catagories are: Inbox, Compose, Folders, options, Help, Addresses, Logout, Extras, Freestuff. The colour scheme is green, white and black and there are hardly any, if no moving graphics to whisk your eyes away and give you a headache! *Inbox* The inbox is small and easy to read. It is like any you will have used! This adds to it's ease of use! *compose* This is also like all the classics such ...

VISTO Still the best

Advantages: Fast, convenient, reliable, technically superior
Disadvantages: Nick names not fully supported

It's now a year since i signed up with VISTO. Appart from al the gadgets offered, the 15 MB account size simply is convincing. you won't get 15 MB everywhere and secondly the interface is fast and simple, although the server is located in america. Many local Freemail providers even cannot compete with this initially. The automatic picture viewing, easy mail forwarding, the customizing of your personal preferences when working with your mail, plus ...
...only freemail provider i know, which allows you to attach files to your mail directly from the server area and not pnly from your PC. Upload your attachment once and resend it numerous times without having to upload it again when you want to attach it. Visto is the only freemail that can feature this service. All others require to upload your attachemnt each and every time. Visto is perfect if you are an egroups or yahoogroups member at groups ...
