Disadvantages Disadvantages No 'undo' button in the Windows version, only one player, can be addictive!

I've always liked Patience card games for whiling away a few idle moments, so I was very happy about the advent of computer-based versions which save the hassle of dealing out the cards! I discovered Freecell some years ago now and although it took me a few attempts to get one 'out', I now find that I can usually - but not always - win. To me, this is the ideal kind of game. I don't want something so easy that I always win, nor something so difficult that it's almost impossible. Nor do I like games based purely on luck, and while in any card game there is some element of luck in the dealing ... more

Advantages Advantages More complex than Solitaire, more fun!

Disadvantages Disadvantages May frustrate some people very quickly!

Card games seem to be a favourite with computer users, and indeed, with the general population. You have only to look at the games included with Windows to see what I mean – Solitaire, Hearts and Freecell – the only non-card game is Minesweeper (although Hearts bows out of Win2000 in favour of pinball game 3D Pinball Space Cadet). They're clearly a favourite between programmers, and I suppose it's because they're simple to play once you've mastered the rules, and probably not all that hard to program either! I only discovered Freecell recently. When I say 'discovered', I don't mean ... more

    Advantages Advantages Free, fun

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Complex

If you ask me Freecell has a pretty hard time of it. People always play Minesweeper, or Solitaire, but when you say 'Don't you want to play Freecell?' they just look at you as if you're stupid. Freecell isn't as easy to understand as Solitaire but when mastered it is ultimately more rewarding. The two card games share a similar idea, but Freecell takes it a bit further. The aim of the game is the same of that of Solitaire; to get all the cards in to 4 piles, one for each suit, counting up from ace to king. The way you go about this is the difference between Freecell and Solitaire. The games ... more

    Advantages Advantages Free, Mentally Challenging

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't Pause A Game Part Way Through

Occasionally when I am bored at work during my lunchtime I find myself playing Freecell on my PC. For those of you that do not know what Freecell is then I shall explain during the course of this review, but should you decide to have a mess about with it, then be warned because believe me it is very addictive. SO WHAT IS FREECELL? Freecell is a card game, which comes with most versions of Windows. I use Windows XP at both Home and Work and it is on that, although prior to Windows XP I used Windows 98 and it also came with that. If you are unsure if it is on your PC then have a look in your ... more

Advantages Advantages Great way to pass some time

Disadvantages Disadvantages Takes while to get the hang of

FreeCell is another of the games that comes free with versions of Microsoft Windows, and has to be one of the difficult and brain using game out of all the free ones. It's hard to learn what to do and once you know what to do, you need to keep your brainpower going to try and complete the game. You are not always guaranteed to complete every game (there are 32000 different card layouts to play), the help files state that this card game is completable on every level but it hasn't been proven, you'd need a lot of time to go through them all! You need to be thinking about your current and the ... more
