Advantages: Loads, price, loads of songs on one CD, portable, one of a kind Disadvantages: None
...have recently purchased the new Freecom Beatman Mp3CD player which is apparently the only one of its kind. You may be thinking that you have seen hundreds of Mp3CD players so what’s new about this one. Well I will tell you. The CD's that it plays are only 8cm in diameter which lets you fit this handy little player in your pocket unlike usual Mp3CD players.
The Player:
In short it is great. There is a built in anti-shock ... ...not necessary to but the freecom CDs as the player supports 8cm audio CDs, 8cm CD-Roms, 8com CD-Rs and 8cm CD-RW. You can store 185mb of music on one CD which works out at around 210 minutes of top quality music of 128bitrate. I got the CDs from dabs.com aswell.
The Look:
Well it looks pretty cool, quite a simple design but it is a see through blue colour on the top and has a black bottom.
Well it has been a while since I last wrote an opinion but it feels good to be back. It looks like there have been a lot of changes here, but one thing that it is clear that has not changed is the friendliness of the members.
Anyway, I have recently purchased the new Freecom Beatman Mp3CD player which is apparently the only one of its kind. The CD's that it plays are only 8cm in diameter which lets you fit this handy little player in your pocket unlike usual Mp3CD players.
The Player: In short it is great. There is a built in anti-shock function so basically you can knock it around for ages and the CD will not jump. There us a LCD display, which shows the track number, playing time and battery life left. There are the standard playback functions including Play/On/Pause, Stop/Off, Next, Previous, Program;Repeat, Equalizer, Intro. To top it all off there is a digital sound equalizer that makes the sound quality impeccable and a rotary volume control which is really special I am sure you will agree.
The battery life is good being that of 7 hours on 2 AA batteries, which I add are included with the player. You can buy the player from a load of places but I have only seen it on the internet. The cheapest place I found was dabs.com and I am sure you will not be able to believe the price when I say it is just under £100 from dabs. From here you can also buy the Cds especially for the beatman and they work out at around £1 each.
With the player you also get In-ear headphones which aren't like the big fat ones you get on planes. Batteries are included. There is an AC adapter, a manual which is in English, but it is not hard to work out how the player works, stick in the CD and press play. Included also is one blank 8cm mini CD-R.
The CD-Rs: As I have mentioned their price is around £1, they come in their own Jewel case. It is not necessary to but the freecom CDs as the player supports 8cm audio CDs, 8cm CD-Roms, 8com CD-Rs and 8cm CD-RW. You can store 185mb of music on one CD which works out at around 210 minutes of top quality music of 128bitrate. I got the CDs from dabs.com aswell.
The Look: Well it looks pretty cool, quite a simple design but it is a see through blue colour on the top and has a black bottom.
Well thats about it all I can say is go out and but as the sound quality of these CDs is amazing and the price is good to. Just one thing make sure that you have a CD-R or CD-RW drive so that you can burn the CDs.
As always I love you comments and if you have any questions don't worry about asking.
Advantages: Sound quality, massive storage on 8cm CD-R or CD-Rw Disadvantages: Size, battery life, does not support ID3 tags (Song name, artist, album...)
I got this player in August of 2001. It would be an excellent player, but lacks in features when compared to other players of the day. I do like the mini CD idea and as I like to hoard my music collection, it gave me the ability to haul round more than 3 times as much as my friend on his 64mb YEPP. However, the beatman is quite thick so users who have had a solid state player before are going to find it rather bulky. Personally, coming off a CD player ... ...into my jacket pocket ok and isn't all that heavy. The mini CDs are great and for a little extra you can get yourself a mini CDRW and re-write your tracks onto it when you've gotten bored of older ones. The sound is great and it can really pump out the songs, especially with the supllied earbud headphones. Its controls are really simple and a monkey could probably pick them up quite rapidly.
However, the player eats up batteries terribly fast. The ...

The Freecom Beatman is a fairly decent little Mp3 player. It takes 8cm CDs, which hold 185 Meg of data. This means it holds about 22 minutes of CD Audio, or at 128 Kb/s MP3 about 2 hours 45 minutes of music. It includes a key-lock switch, analogue volume control, and a preset equaliser.
It looks good enough, the sound quality is very good (even when connected up to proper Hi-Fi speakers), and the cost per megabyte of memory is very cheap.
For long ... ...harddisk space for hundreds of albums this sort of player might be for you. You can burn lots of music CDs and take them with you.
You can also use it with 8cm CD-RWs, so you could use it to transfer computer files about with too on the same CD if you want.
It's reasonably small, however, it is quite thick, so it can be uncomfortable in your pocket. You put albums into different directories, so despite not being able to read any ID3 tags it does ...

Advantages: This allows you to carry along up to 4 hours worth of MP3 music. Disadvantages: The buffering is not perfect.
...are 8 cm CDs which Freecom also manufacture). With my first attempt I fitted 34 tracks totalling about 3 hours of music. I was a bit disappointed because the CDs claim "up to" 4 hours.
I first tried out the Beatman on a coach trip and I really appreciated it. At last I could listen to my choice of tracks virtually non-stop without having to reach into my bag to change CDs.
However I got to be a bit disappointed when I decided to take my Beatman ... ...it was a tight fit into my jean pockets (and they are large!). The main problem however was that I had to walk lightfooted to avoid jarring it too much. The buffering just couldn't be trusted. Even my old low-quality CD-player performs better with its 10-second buffer.
The sound quality is pretty good, but the sound level control is inadequate. It is not a button to press, but a side-dial which leaves it open to accidental turns. Mine also proved ...

Advantages: It can read mp3's digitally recorded. Disadvantages: it sucks up battery power like a bitch
...break the bank.
The freecom beatman is definate buy because it is around £100 and is reasonably easy to use.
THe last mention is that when i first got mine the player constantly kept switching off regardless of the battery power and i found that the connection between the two batteries in the battery compartment. ...

Advantages: Can fit alot of music onto one CDRW Disadvantages: poor buffering.... maybe due to cd's written to fast, eats batteries!
When i bought this i bought it with 3 mini cdrw's and they work absolutely great in it. It comes with seinheiser MX300 ear phones and they are pretty dammed good compared to other earphones you get with portable audio players. Dont burn the cd's at a high speed though, this can cause the buffer to not buffer the mp3 properly causing what seems like skips. I turned the speed down from 8x to 4x and i tried to make it skip and i just could not. I can ... ...socket is set a little bit to deeply into the plastic and the earphones supplied have trouble keeping in place when the cable is going down towards the open button on the player. Simple fix is to take a sharp knife to the ridge on the earphones and to cut a small peice of. Works great now. Ive got some Ni-Mh rechargable batteries and they work fine in it giving me about 8 - 10 hours playback. Universal alkalines though give near 12 hours. I have ...
