    3 Stars Not Elite. 01/06/2004
    User doesn't recommend the product

Advantages Advantages Good inital gameplay, decent graphics, decent storyline/atmosphere, doesn't require top notch PC to play

Disadvantages Disadvantages Gets repetitive once storyline finishes, expensive RRP for what it offers.

One day, years ago one of my mates ran up to me one day and showed me what looked suspiciously like his geometry homework. He was trying to say something, but the bit of paper he held in his hands only contained what looked like a random collection of simple triangles. I took the bait... "Wassat?" I asked, squinting at the paper. "Fer de Lance" he replied, grinning. "Amazing, isn't it?" And so began my education of what was known as Elite. Elite, if you didn't already know, was a space-based trading and combat game released on the BBC Micro Model B (and later on the more popular home ... more

3 Stars You Decide - Supposedly Review with images 09/12/2003
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Great Graphics, long shelflife

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Limited gameplay

Is it a Flight Sim ? Is it an RPG ? Is it a shoot'em'up ? No - it's FREELANCER the Microsoft game that somehow manages to be all and yet none of the three (although it seems to be generally classed in with the flight sims), a game that combines strategy, trading and combat - unfortunately not very well to the extent that it doesn't live up to its potential. On the plus side it's a game with great graphics and the potential to be infinitely playable as you can deviate from the set path, there's also great scope in this game universe for expansion sets if MS decide to bring any out. You can play ... more

Advantages Advantages A big galaxy and open ended story

Disadvantages Disadvantages Story is a bit short

*****Why I Buy***** Once upon a time in space there came a product that revolutionised the gaming industry, a game set in space, a game they called Elite. Some of you may remember it, some of you may have heard of it, some of you may have played it and loved it, lost countless hours in pursuit of the next ranking; dangerous, deadly, ELITE! – For those that do remember it, and it may be those slightly older than 16, you’ll also probably be aware that for several years the gaming world waited with baited breath for a suitably adequate sequel, whilst a second and third version were ... more

Advantages Advantages Freedom, Variety Of Ships, Numerous Star Systems, Follow Any Trade You Like, Good Story

Disadvantages Disadvantages Ships Don't Much Bigger Than Heavy Fighter, Side Missions Can Be Repetitive, Travel System Is Quite Slow

Freelancer is a non-linear space simulation, where you can visit over 40 systems, and land on over 150 docks, including space stations, battleships and planets. There are over forty ships for the player to discover and pilot. All have their unique advantages and disadvantages. If you decide to watch the videos before the main menu, you'll understand why the humans are in a remote part of the galaxy. For those who don't or won't watch it, here it is in a nutshell. ***Story*** Huge war, humans on Mars (The Coalition) fought against Earth (The Alliance), Earth is about to be completely conquered ... more

    Advantages Advantages Blowing s**t Up

Disadvantages Disadvantages Good Pc Specs A Must

Freelancer Okay yeah, I know I have been gone a long time but you know how life gets sometimes but even though I have been busy as hell I still found the time for death, mayhem, chaos and blowing s**t up. The odd thing though is that of my two favourite games from this year this one is probably the last thing I would have expected myself to get hooked on. When I requested that Ciao! add this game to their listings, other than being surprised that it wasn’t already there, although as this is still kind of a new game we can let them off with that, I was unsure of where exactly to try to place ... more
