I have recently bought a freeveiw reveiver and am amazed with the quality of the picture and features included with it.
First off all, you get Interactive TV without have to pay a single subscription fee. The interactive feature is very useful as you can check, for example:
What is on TV (now, next or later on) The results of your football or rugby team. The news and weather The lottery numbers, and much more.
Also, with Freeview, every channel has the capability of subtitles for the hearing impaired and a descrition of the program that you are watching at the moment.
When I first used my Freeveiw set I was amazed that I was able to achieve high quality digital pictures from a small box which can be set up in under two minutes. Before I had my Freeview recivever I had to bear with a regular reception which was not the great at the best of times. However, this simple peice of equipment completley changed my standard of viewing. I like many people in the UK, was not able to view Channel 5 at an acceptable standard, unlike the 4 standard channels. With Freeview I am now able to view Channel 5 just the same way that I could veiw BBC1, for example, with perfecr digital qualtiy.
Freeveiw does not only give you enhanced viewing of Channels 1-5, it provides more than 30 other channels too. For example, BBC3, BBC4, ITV2, Sky News, Sky Sports News, ITV News, BBC News 24, CBBC Channel, CBeebies, QVC, TMF ( The Music Factory), The HITS TV, Teletext, Interactive Games and man more. These extra channels, provide a wide range of choice, when it comes to watching TV providing Channels for everyone no watter what type of TV they like to watch. ITV2 can be used to catch up on that episode of Corination Street that you missed or it can also be used to watch your football team in the UEFA Champions League. If you are an avid sport fan then Sky Sports News i just for you. I myself am a huge football and often watch Sky Sports News to catch on the days results or just to find out about the Sporting News. If anyone is intersted in buying from the TV, QVC is an option as well as Bid Up TV amoung others. As you can see Freeview can benifit everyone with different tastes. I find watching TV easier and more enjoyable as a result of Freeview and reccommend everyone to consider adding it to their home too.
Freeview still offers more to you than TV, it allows you to listen to Radio 1-5 perfectly, removing any interfearance that is received with a normal radio. Freeview aslo offers Digital Radio and such stations as Radio 1 Xtra, BBC 5 Live Sports Extra, BBC Radio 6 + 7, BBC Asian Network and BBC World Service. It also provides Kiss, Smash Hits Radio, Mojo, Heat, Kerrang, Q and more. I think that the digital radio is great because before I would normally recieve some interfearance when listening to the radio, but now I do not at all. I also receive additional stations which offer a wider variety to what I can listen to.
You do not need any different type of TV to recieve Freeview, I have my Freeview box linked up to my portable TV in my bedroom and recieve the same features that you would recieve from a Widescreen TV, so if you are worried that it will not work on your TV, Don't!
Overall, if you consider that you only have to pay around £60 - £80 for your reciever and you benift from all the above you will understand how good Freeview is. I think it was it was money well spent for me and hope that this review has helped at all.

That was a sweet review. Btw a new digital is coming out from sky which has around 200 channels. Look out for that.

I've got one of the first freeview boxes and it's still good. It was good when ITV/ONDigital were doing there thing as I had a special card that could recieve all channels for free but because of those division 2 football teams that's gone. --Chris--

Thanks for the R&R on mine BTW. Some parts of the country are now starting to get the benefit of a full 7-day programme guide like a Sky box does - mine is now showing more than 'Now & Next' but you do need to keep your ear to the ground for firmware updates. A good place to find out when they are due is http://www.dtg.org.uk/cgi-bin/download_schedule.pl . Chris
