...when I tasted my first Freschetta pizza! As you can see I know a good pizza when I taste one and believe me when I tell you Freschetta pizzas are the product I have been searching for and didn't think I would ever find. As all pizza lovers know, frozen pizzas just aren't the same. I've tried them all, Chicago Town, McCains, Goodfellows the lot and none come close to the freshly baked pizzas you enjoy in your local Pizza Hut or Pizza Express BUT Freschetta ... ...yes really!
Freschetta pizzas
Freschetta pizzas were first developed in 1996 in the United States and were a huge success over there winning loads of prizes for best new product etc, It wasn't long before they were launched over here in the U.K where they have had a colder reception but believe me, they are growing in popularity. Giants like Iceland, Tescos, Sainsburys and Morrisons are all now stocking Freschetta and ... more
This is my first opinion on a food product so please forgive me if it's crap.
Well first of all I'm a complete pizza fanatic, I love them and I eat lots and lots - I worked out last year I consumed over fifty which was scary (no I'm not a porker!). Every friday evening in my house is pizza time where we dial-a-pizza and wash it down with a bottle of Chianti or three until about three months ago when I tasted my first Freschetta pizza! As you can see I know a good pizza when I taste one and believe me when I tell you Freschetta pizzas are the product I have been searching for and didn't think I would ever find. As all pizza lovers know, frozen pizzas just aren't the same. I've tried them all, Chicago Town, McCains, Goodfellows the lot and none come close to the freshly baked pizzas you enjoy in your local Pizza Hut or Pizza Express BUT Freschetta pizzas are the bees knees, they are in my view restaurant style pizzas, frozen - yes really!
Freschetta pizzas
Freschetta pizzas were first developed in 1996 in the United States and were a huge success over there winning loads of prizes for best new product etc, It wasn't long before they were launched over here in the U.K where they have had a colder reception but believe me, they are growing in popularity. Giants like Iceland, Tescos, Sainsburys and Morrisons are all now stocking Freschetta and the space/range allocated to them has grown markedly over the last year. There all millions of these little gems out there waiting to be discovered - see if you can find one!
The packaging of the pizzas is quite distinctive. Mainly a green box with Freschetta in blue bubble writing, surrounded by the words bakes and rises. The box has a circle on the front cut out of the cardboard with the pizza visible on the inside in a cellophane wrapper - I've started to slavver!
The range!
8'' Supreme (pepperoni, spicy sausage, ham, olives, onions) Pepperoni Margherita Chicken Supreme Four Cheese pizza
These are said to be enough for two people but I would say one actually and I'm not particulary greedy.
12'' Four Cheese pizza Pepperoni Supreme Spicy Sausage Vegetable Primavera Special Deluxe
These are said to be enough for up to six people but I think closer to three.
Some of the range is not easy to find, I would suggest visiting a larger supermarket if your after the likes of the less popular Vegetable Primavera and Special Deluxe.
Cooking the little beauties!
Unlike any other frozen pizza, the Freschetta range is completely uncooked so should be cooked without the need for pre-heating otherwise you will spoil the base. Use a large baking tray because the base does expand outwards quite a deal.
For conventional gas and electric ovens, cook on gas mark 5 or 250'f for twenty three minutes. For fan assisted gas and electric ovens, cook on gas mark 4 or 200'f for twenty five minutes.
The thing most noticeable once they are done is the teriffic smell of the freshly baked bread which puts them in comparison to a take away pizza. If you put it alongside a take away pizza on a plate you wouldn't be able to see the difference but the great thing is, nor would you after you have tasted them both either. My personal favourites are the Supreme and the Pepperoni although I'm quite taken with the Special Deluxe too. The toppings are tasty and generous and the thin, crispy bases are nine out of ten stuff too. Sometimes on frozen pizzas, the cheese can taste rubbery or the chicken dry but there is none of that on evidence here. The quality of the ingredients is very high.
How much then?
8'' have ranged anything from 99p to £1.50 depending on where you go.
12'' have ranged anything from £1.99 to £2.99 depending on where you go.
As you can see there not the cheapest frozen pizzas on the market which is probably why they haven't completely taken off yet but they are the best and by some distance. When your getting quality I don't mind handing over a few more pence.
As these pizzas are still being promoted heavily to increase their market share you may find that they are quite often on offer at one of the big supermarkets. They were on BOGOF not long since and my chest freezer is still stuffed with them hehe.
Conclusion
What can I say, simply the best frozen pizzas in the shops today. That's from a pizza madman and if you don't believe me go find out for yourself. Dial-a-pizzas are out in my abode and Freschettas are in.
Part with some dough and treat yourself to a pizza the action !!

Advantages: Novelty rise and bake pizza Disadvantages: Amount of topping varies
...noticed a frozen pizza called Freschetta and thought I would check out two of the varieties Cheese Suprema and Suprema Pizza.
Packaging
A square box with an attractive green background on which a golden pizza rests complete with topping. Interestingly a triangular window allows you to take a peek at the actual contents (that is, am I getting enough topping on this pizza or shall I pick another one instead?). Inside the box, the pizza is contained ... ...recyclable.
The manufacturers are falling over themselves to entice you with words such as ‘experience the pleasure’ and ‘restaurant quality in your own home’ emblazoned on the front of the box. On the rear the bold statement ‘Get ready to experience extreme pleasure’. Well sorry I must be missing something because the earth definitely didn't move for me! Extreme pleasure? – rather sad if you get this from ...

Advantages: Lots of people like it Disadvantages: Not better than rival products
...hearing great things about the Freschetta Pizza, I decided to buy one from my local store. Costing £1.49 for a 8 inch pizza (diameter), I had relatively little trouble locating the 300g box from the freezer section. The box is green with a window for looking into the box and at the pizza itself, whilst, true to form for packaging, makes the illustrated pizza look like the best thing in the world.
The cheese suprema is the variety that I have put ... ...my store, so I take it home excitedly in great anticipation after having read so many good things about it.
The cheeses present on top of my still-frozen pizza are listed as mozzarella, red cheddar, regato and provolone. “Extreme pleasure” the back of the box claims. No need to pre-heat the oven. Okay, I take off the plastic packaging and place on the bottom shelf of my electric non-fan-assisted oven. I wait, for eighteen minutes, and ...

Advantages: The best home cooked frozen pizza ever Disadvantages: need to remember the baking tray
...When I discovered Freschetta pizzas my first thought was to write an opinion on it. I contacted Ciao in order for them to create a new category and they replied suggesting that they needed more information on it. Well I had no further information about it, so I gave up on the idea. Fortunately somebody else seems to have managed to supply Ciao with enough details so here it is. Why I am so keen to write about could stem from the fact that it’s a ... ...rushing in I placed my Freschetta directly on the oven shelf, in a preheated oven as is normal for most other frozen pizzas. Consequently it oozed through the shelf and made a hell of a mess. Freschettas are totally uncooked from the start and so a baking tray is definitely required…. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
The cooking times vary slightly, depending on your oven but generally 20-25 minutes will be adequate. After removing your pizza from the oven ...

***********************PACKAGING**********************
Freschetta pizza boxes, in my eyes, stand out from the rest. The boxes are green in colour, with red, blue and yellow detail. This makes them very distinctive.
Inside the box, the pizza is wrapped in a clear plastic sleeve wrapper.
Each box, has a slice like piece cut out of the top. This allows you to see the pizza inside.

Advantages: inexpensive, succulent and rich tasting pizza Disadvantages: High calories for a small product
Chicago Town Deep Pan Pepperoni Pizza's are produced by the Schwan Food Company, who have a preference for marketing frozen foods in the United States and Europe. Their brands, alongside Chicago Town, include FreschettaPizza in Europe, and Red Baron and Asian Specialities in North America.
The Deep Pan Pepperoni Pizza's can be found in the frozen section of most popular supermarkets, alongside their other flavours - Triple Cheese, Spicy Chicken etc, retailing for round £1.65 for a twin pack. These pizza's can often be found enjoying a little marketing of their own, being popular in the Buy One Get One Free (BOGOF), and 2 for £3.00 offers - these are an ideal time to stock up on these handy meals. Packaging resembles any normal frozen pizza selection with the casing displaying a cooked version alongside the enlarged Chicago Town ...
Advantages: Crispy, tastes great Disadvantages: Availability, no meat
, but I think sometimes there can be too much base on a pizza – not here though. It is light, quite similar to the Freschettapizza, although not so deep, and will therefore be easier to fit in your mouth, and more pleasurable to eat.
This pizza should be cooked at 230 degrees, so please be careful when using the oven at this temperature – we don’t want any accidents in the kitchen, especially just before meal time. There is no meat at all, so vegetarians can enjoy this as well as all you carnivores, a big bonus. This pizza tries to be quite sophisticated, and succeeds, it would look the part at a house party, a dinner party, or even a birthday party because of its versatility. Being ready in the fraction of the time it takes for pizza delivery, this is certainly a strong contender.

Us poor writers have to make a living. I pay regular lip service to Avon, but the Food and Beverages category is the real bread and butter of the site. We need to make a crust, to earn some dough, so I’m writing about pizzas in the hope I’ll earn a few more pennies…
My favourite pizzas are Freschettas, they’re just gorgeous. But they can be expensive and we are always looking out for special offers, so when hubby-to-be (5 weeks on Thursday!) found a deal on Chicago Town Deep Dish Pizzas, I was only too pleased to welcome them into our freezer.
We got the Triple Cheese variety, but the others in the range are Ham and Mushroom, Hot and Spicy, Pepperoni, Ham and Pineapple and BBQ Chicken. This particular offer means you get four pizzas for £2.98, which (so the box tells us) works out at less than 75p per pizza ...
