I have a friend who has a bizarre phobia of furry fruit. No, this isn't the opening line of a joke it is absolutely true. Show her something like a Peach and she completely freaks out. Try and make her touch its furry skin and she will likely pass out, or at best scream the supermarket out. I haven't seen this friend for a couple of years but I am still in touch and I often give her a thought as I'm perusing the aisles of fruit in my local supermarket. Wondering to myself how she must be coping with all of these new and fancy exotic fruits that now adorn the shelves. The Kiwi fruit is not ... more

Now that the better weather is here I have noticed that I appear to be buying more fruit that throughout the winter months and would like to share a family favourite with you – the Kiwi. The Kiwi fruit is originally from China and has really travelled a long way to reach our shelves, though in China they are known as the “macaque peach”. The Kiwi was an unknown fruit to the Western world until the 20th century which is really quite surprising. The name Kiwi is also very recent as back in the 1960’s this fruit was known as the “Chinese Gooseberries” according to my mother, I suppose you can see ... more

I must admit that I'm not a big fruit eater. I find the usual apples, bananas etc., very boring, but I do like to try more exotic and different fruits. I have recently read alot of articles singing the praises of Kiwi fruit , about how good it is for you and with virtually no calories. So with this in mind, I made a conscious effort to remember to pop some in my shopping trolley and give them a try. I found them sold in my local Asda, sold in a punnet of 6 for only 98p. You could also buy them singularly for 18p each. They are found by the strawberries, grapes, plums etc. APPEARANCE Greeny ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Either you like or you dont

I am not sure if i can make a little green fruit sound interesting but I will try. I was first introduced to the Kiwi fruit when I was in Australia by my ex girlfriend, who was always eating fruit but she swore by this one. I buy mine from asda and they cost about ninety eight pence for six fruits. But I did do a quick price comparison on the internet. Asda - 98p for 6 Tescos - £1.00 for 4 Sainsburys - 99p for 6 A few other stores that I have not mentioned also sell them for around a pound, give or take a few pence. Brief History The kiwi fruit actually originates in China and was introduced ... more

Fresh Kiwi. For anyone who has never tried or heard of them kiwifruit are oval, and about the size of a large hen's egg It has a hairy, dull green-brown skin; the flesh is bright green or golden with rows of small, black, edible seeds. The texture of the fruit is soft and the taste is difficult to describe, it's a bit of a mixture really, the biting feeling of a strawberry and a very sweet pineapple is probably about the best I can explain, but very pleasant and juicy. The fruits name comes from the Kiwi bird the national bird of New Zealand, where the fruit was produced on a commercial bases ... more
