In 2005/2006 AVATAR comics, as part of their Friday The 13th series, released a two part special entitled Jason Vs Jason X! Others released in the series of New Line Cinema's horror legends included A Nightmare On Elm Street and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This review, however, is for Jason Vs Jason X Issue 2 released in June 2006 with story and artwork by Mike Wolfer and colors by Andrew Dalhouse.* sTORy *
(carried on from my review of Issue 1) Within every evil there is is a more horrifying evil waiting to be released. On a routine salvage mission, the crew of the Pompei boarded the remains of the space catamaran Grendel in the hopes of pirating its valuable cargo, primarily a medical nanotech regeneration unit. What the crew found was death at the hands of Jason Voorhees, accidentally reconstructed by the nano unit from a large portion of his original head and the decomposing bodies of his last victims.
After disengaging from the Grendel, the pilot of the Pompei made an emergency docking with a passing luxury cruiser when a mysterious malfunction crippled her ship. But Melda was not the only passenger aboard the Pompei, Jason was hidden on board as well, curiously drawn to the luxury cruiser by an unseen force. That force was the psycde of Jason X, who was waging his own bloody campaign of terror on board the SS Fun Club. Sensing each others presence, the two halves of of one undying creature of destruction now stand face to face, knowing that one of them must die. The only clues to what has driven them both to this deadly confrontation lies within the incomplete memories of each: For Jason X, it is the soothing remembrances of words spoken by someone who he knows should mean something to him...
And for Jason, the vague and silent images of someone who strangely soothes his tortured soul...Now confronting each other, (Jason and Uber-Jason) all hell breaks loose as the two masked-psychos begin their almighty battle. While Melda searches for help, trying to find a way to stop them Jason and Uber-Jason continue their battle with each other also killing the unfortunate members of the SS Fun Club who happen to get in their way. Melda takes control of the ship as the captain is killed and plunges it down, crashing it onto the surface of Earth 2. Continuing their almighty battle on the surface of Earth 2 who will be the winner? Who will be able to stop them if anybody and who do these words and images that both of them keep seeing and hearing belong to? You'll have to read it to find out! ;)
* aRTWORK *As like the others in the series the artwork is great being detailed and well-drawn. My only gripe is, as with others, is that some scenes should have been cared for more as it takes a few reads and careful looking to see what happens and how they get from one place to another. The storyline is, however, well explained making it an easy fluent read.
* oTHER EDITIONS AVAILABLe *You can pick up this comic in a variety of different covers. You can buy the regular edition cover, the gore cover, the nano-steel cover, the wrap cover or terror cover all retailing for around 2 to 5 pounds each in the UK. My regular edition cover cost 2 pounds and 80 pence...
* tO SUM Up *This is the second Issue of a two part series so before buyin g this i do recommend you buy Issue 1 first so you can get a better understanding of what's going on. Actually, if you're going to go for Gold, buy the Jason X SPECIAL Issue 1 first before either issue 1 or 2 of Jason Vs Jason X as that storyline leads up to the events of this one. It's a great collectors item for Friday The 13th and horror fans alike so if you can I recommend you pick up your copy today!
