As a big fan of Koontz I always know I’m in for a good read (an element of bias in there sure, but for the most part he’s good), but From The Corner Of His Eye was better than I could of hoped.
First off, anyone who plans to pick this up, PLEASE don’t read the synopsis on the jacket of the book. It doesn’t really tell the story, just points out a major event that occurs over halfway through the book and you are just waiting for it to happen.
Without giving too much away the story is basically a group of people going about their own lives (filled with events, both tragic and joyful) who are not aware of each other’s existence, for the most part, but are all linked through things that have happened and I guess through fate also.
The story plays out, focussing on each of the main characters in turn and their lives gradually become linked as the story progresses, leading to the inevitable finale where it all comes together.
Although this may sound like nothing new, it is done so well.
The characterisation is top notch, especially with the principle characters and as a whole the story flows effortlessly between locations and scenarios.
One point of interest is that one of the main characters is ‘The Bad Guy’ and it is good to see inside his head as , although obviously troubled, he isn’t aware that what he does is wrong. It is a unique insight into the mind of the baddie who is usually just a small part in any book.
Also people who may avoid Koontz because of the Horror label he has pinned on him should know that this is far from Horror. There are no Ghosts or Goblins lurking anywhere in this story and the only Evil is that which we see in any Serial killer or similar ‘regular’ person, so if put off by the Horror title, please do not be as this ain’t horror.
At times incredibly moving and upsetting it is also funny and makes you feel good to be alive.
Filled with great characters you’ll find hard to forget and twists a’plenty, this is a damn good read that you will find hard to part down.
One of Koontz’s best and a good one for people to pick up as their entrance to his world.

Great op. I still haven't read this one although I've read pretty much all of the rest of his work. Do you know if you can get it in paperback yet? Joanna.
