We used to have two dogs, the eldest one, Rufus, caught fleas and he was in a terrible state, kept scratching all the time. We bought him some stuff from the pet shop but it didn't work, so tried something different and again it didn't work. Then we noticed that the fleas were coming on us on our legs and realised we had them in the carpets and before we knew it the whole house was infested. The worst place was in our cellar as they must have fell through the carpet and through the floorboards into the cellar. Every time we had to go down there we were getting covered.

Rufus got worse and worse with his scratching until we noticed he had broken the skin so we took him to the vets where they said he had a severe allergy to fleas which meant if ever he caught fleas his skin would come out in a terrible rash. They told us to use the Frontline Spot-on for Dogs as it works better than other treatments you could get in the pet shops.

The vets put one application on Rufus while we were there and told us to do it again every month. They also gave him an injection and some tablets to clear up the rash. We took him home and were dreading it with him coming back into the home with all the fleas already there but he didn’t scratch much at all. We couldn't believe it and the fleas in the carpet seemed to just disappear over night. It was brilliant.

The Frontline comes in a tiny tube like thing and you just break the end off and apply the liquid to the back of the dog's neck. It works somehow by getting into the fleas and killing them off and it also kills off the ones in the home. We never had to do anything else around the house, the fleas just seemed to vanish.

The medication used to be really expensive to buy from the vets, I think we had to pay something like £25 for three months worth which was just for the one dog. This wasn't too bad when we just had Rufus but when we got out other dog it got quite expensive. We found that at first when we run out of the Frontline Rufus used to start scratching again meaning we had to go and get some more urgently from the vets. The vet said this was because some of the fleas could lay dormant in the home and then come back onto the dog.

We decided to have a look online to see whether we could buy the stuff off there any cheaper and found a site called Pet Meds where you can get it from. It was a lot cheaper from them, being nearly half the price we were paying from the vets. I can't remember exactly what we were paying then but now the prices for the three pack are (going on weight of dog) £14.52 for less than 10 kg, £15.87 for 10 - 20 kg, £17.21 for 20-40 kg and £17.99 for 40 - 60 kg. It is cheaper to buy the 6 month packs if you can afford them, they are £17.99 for less than 10 kg, £23.72 for 10 - 20 kg, £25.75 for 20 - 40 kg, and £31.31 for 40 - 60 kg.

Once we started using the Frontline regularly Rufus didn't suffer at all anymore, and he lived a long and happy life, we sadly lost him last year. Our other dog Harvey has never had fleas, and we have never had them in the home again.

If you think your dog has fleas I would highly recommend you use this for your pet as it really does work and you wouldn't want your dog getting an allergy like ours had. I give it a 5 star rating and would give it more if it let me.
