Reviews of Frozen Ready Meals »
Yummy Curry aka Chicken Rogan Josh By Sainsburys.
Advantages: Very quick and not pots and pans to wash up! Disadvantages: I dont get much needed cooking practice!
What is it?
Chicken Rogan Josh with pilau rice. Or Chicken Curry.
A frozen Ready meal from Sainsburys, that lovely supermarket I now seem to know as a seccond home. How is it I find myself there three times a week?
Why did I buy it?
I was feeling very lazy, bad day with the kids and going to work at 6pm no time for cooking!
I have to admit, I'll buy anything if it's on offer and this was no different. The offer was buy 2 for £4 and the idea ... ...have it again the next sounded great! My finace doesnt eat curry so I bought him sweet and sour because he is a pussy!
The packaging is in those kind of rich colours you associate with indian food purple and a really deep pinky colour. Theres also a picture of the yummy stuff on it too and when you are hungrey and shopping this is very effective!
I love a good curry and usally go for the hottest thing around but as the alternative was Korma I went ...

One of my favourite foods is no more
Advantages: Takes about 10minutes to nuke Disadvantages: Changed recipe from an exceptional basic curry, to an average Jalfrezi / Rogan Josh sort of style curry
For years, the BirdsEye Chicken Curry was one of my favourite foods (with my Dad having quit stocking my previous favourite curry, The "Vesta Beef Madras" I think it was).... a nice basic curry with a bit of a kick to it.
From what I recall there was 2 bags... one with rice, the other with Chicken, Curry sauce + raisins / currants if memory serves me correctly (and it was sodding impossible to get the stains from it off the breadboard if you splashed ... ...to that in their "Roast Chicken Dinner" once you'd sucked off the curry sauce.
Sometime around 2003/2004 they brought out a new "improved" (my arse) version..... whether it was because they'd got a new person in charge of the curry range, or to keep the food fascists off their back.... or just a result of the restructuring from parent company Unilever I don't know.
The new curry comes in a two part plastic container (which has a tendency to break ...

Weight Watchers Curry - OK but not exciting!
Advantages: Easy way to satisfy cravings! Disadvantages: Takes nearly 10 mins to cook, small portion
...a bikini by May, Weight Watchers products have crept back into my life. I find the system easy to follow and an easy way to track what you've consumed in a day.
Having had a cereal bar for breakfast (yum!) I was craving something hot for dinner so nipped home and bunged in a Weight Watchers by Heinz Chicken Curry - points value 4.5.
First down side - it is not exactly "fast" food. 5 minutes on full power followed by another 4 on Defrost setting. ... ...if you want to lose weight portion control is a major factor but this just felt too small. I had two pieces of Weight Watchers bread with it to bulk it out (0.5 points each so a further 1 point added to the meal) The flavour is a generic curry taste (think chip shop curry, slightly ambiguous without a distinct flavour) but still pleasant. There were plenty of chicken pieces which were small and tasted fine. A warning though - half an hour later and ...

I'm reviewing a curry. Yes, I am bored.
Advantages: Tastes even better than posh currys Disadvantages: Not enough of it
...you consider that you could vomit blood from your eyes free of charge.
But anyway, it's a lovely, lovely curry. I also reccommend eating it with Tesco spring rolls, which cook in the oven so they take a bit longer, but are a right treat dipped in curry. ...

It's a tough choice!
Advantages: tasty, on offer, healthy Disadvantages: a little pricey usually
It occurred to me that I was eating very little meat, so decided I needed to go in search for an animal of some sort I fancied tucking into. The purple packaging of the Weight Watchers frozen ready-meals attracted me over, my eyes locking on a Tomato and Basil Chicken option. Described as 'succulent marinated mini chicken fillets in a chunky tomato, courgette, red pepper and basil sauce, served with deep fried potato wedges', it certainly sounded ... ...meal and take off the film lid as instructed, it doesn't take long to cook if you pop it into the microwave (though you can cook it for 45 minutes in the oven if you have the time). After the nine minutes are up and you have let the dish stand for a minute, you can go and retrieve it. All the while, the delicious tangy tomato aroma has been filling the room. It's so tempting, I'm glad it didn't take too long!
After I emptied the meal out onto the ...
