Slim pickings but quite tasty actually! Advantages: Great lunch meal, low calorie for WW, tasty, cheap Disadvantages: small portion, not healthy to eat everyday (obviously!) I officially started my diet on Monday. Not any old diet either - I decided, after having considerable success a couple of years ago - to do weight watchers and this time do it online. I should firstly point out that I'm fairly rubbish when it comes to cooking - I have a great boyfriend who recognises my lack of skills and cooks for me most times - but if he is not around, I'm more of a stir-fry/beans on toast/chuck something in the microwave kind ... ...on the weight watchers website, I decided to ease myself in gently, and try some of their quick meals. Especially as in Sainsbury's on Monday night the offer for these WW quick meals was 4 for £3. A bargain really! I have tried Weight Watchers meals before and I am fully aware of their portion sizes. Quick, simple and not bad on a budget! Advantages: Easy to cook, tasty, nice with lemon Disadvantages: You only get four in a box, grown-ups will need two each! ...choice I'd go for the Birds Eye Cod Fish Cakes over any supermarket own-brand version. Perhaps it's advertising psychology working its magic on me, but - having sampled Sainsbury's own version, I find the Birds Eye ones far superior. For puzzling reasons, these can take some tracking down in the supermarket. Tesco certainly sells them (both online and in the shops) but I've noticed that my local Sainsbury's is somewhat lacking in frozen savoury items ... ...- they aren't very big. Birds Eye offer four of these little cakes (when I say little, I mean an item which is a centimetre or so deep and slightly smaller than a digestive biscuit) in a neat flat box that's about 15cm by 15cm, and the same depth as the fish cake. The environmentally minded consumer may like the fact that, unlike with some frozen items, the box forms the only packaging. This means no plastic bag, cellophane or plastic tray and does ... Asda Good For you Fish Pie Advantages: A very tasty ready meal Disadvantages: High in saturated fats ...find time to wander around Asda to see what I could come up with. Something light, a fish pie maybe? I could always open a tin of tuna fish and make a fish pie, they always seem to go down well. Passing by the Ready meals section I lingered to read the carton of the Asda Good for You Fish Pie, it seemed ideal and at £1.75 a serving it wasn't going to break the bank either. So I settled for two fish pies served with a side salad. The bright packaging ... ...and meets the environmental standards. Asda say they have taken extra care to remove the fish bones but they cannot ensure that every single bone has been removed. The fish pie contains gluten, wheat, fish and milk, but is free from all artificial colouring or flavouring. OCEANS AWAY FROM WHAT YOU'RE PROMISED! Advantages: Cheap to buy, low in fat and calories Disadvantages: Everything else! Weight Watchers from Heinz Ocean Pie - 300g (please see end of review for extra information regarding this product) APPEARANCE AND SMELL I microwaved mine and it came out looking very sloppy with no browning visible on the potato topping. Getting it out of the carton is basically a case of tipping it out on your plate where it lays vaguely resembling a pile of sick! There were flecks of carrot and a fair few pieces of fish approx an inch ... ...- there were certainly no actual pieces of it - just green specks throughout the sauce. The sauce looked glossy enough but overall looked NOTHING like it did on the packet! The smell as it's cooking is definately an overpowering stench of fish which I found quite unpleasant. yummy, curry fish pie Advantages: delicious Disadvantages: have to cook it YOUNGS, CURRY FISH MELT. This is a quite a new fish dish made by young’s It can be oven cooked or microwaved in 10 minutes I have just sat down and had this fish melt and had to come and write an opinion on it. MY OWN DISCRIPTION As I took my first bite of this pie, I knew it had the makings of a good review. So I savoured every mouthful. The chunks of potato combined with the curry sauce reminded me very much of obviously curry and chips. ... ...again reminded me of prawn curry. I like both combinanations so to have them combined into one dish is to my advantage. The sauce is of a thick consistency, and toped off with mozzarella to give it some texture.
