Advantages Easy to play, good quality
Disadvantages Addicitve!!
I bought the game 'Fruit Ninja; a couple of weeks ago for my iPod touch. I love it and think it's an excellent choice for anyone who wants to buy any games for their iPhone/iPod, so here is my review!
First off the game costs 59p, definitely worth this small sum as it provides hours of entertainment and is a good quality game. I don't buy many apps and I chose this one as it had high ratings and was at number 2 in the 'top 25' section of the game centre, number 1 being 'Angry Birds' which I already had!The great thing about this game is how simple, yet addictive it is. When you first go on the app you are given the following options:
DojoYou choose an option by swiping your finger accross it. The 'dojo' option when chosen, has two sections: 'about' and 'sensei's swag'. The 'about' section offers some general information about the game and tells you how to play it. 'Sensei's swag' allows you to choose which 'blade' you want to use for the game.
The 'new game' option is obviously to start a new game :) Once you choose this you then have to choose which type of game you would like, there is: classic mode, zen mode, Arcade mode, and Multiplayer. In Classic Mode, different pieces of fruit fly into the air and you have to use your finger as a blade to slice them in half (done simply by swiping your finger accross the piece of fruit.) You get three lives and everytime you miss a piece of fruit you lose one. There are also bombs which fly into the air, if you slice one of the bombs then it's game over straight away regardless of how many lives you have left. You get one point per piece of fruit, but if you cut more than 2 pieces of fruit at the same time you get extra points. The aim of the game is just to try and get the highest possible score and then beat your own best scores. It may not sound like the most exciting game but it really is addictive!
In Zen mode, you get 1 minute 30 seconds to get as many points as possible, but there are no bombs, and you don't lose lives for missing pieces of fruit. The only thing is the time limit.Arcade mode also has a time limit, this time it's 1 minute. There are bombs on this level but if you hit one you just lose 10 points. There are also special bananas-if you manage to slice one then it gives you either; double points for a bit, stops the time for a bit, or sends loads of fruit at you from all directions. You don't have to get every piece of fruit in arcade mode, and again the object is just to get as many points as possible and then try and beat your best score.
The multiplayer game requires internet access, and as my wireless internet wasn't working when I tried to test it out for this review I couldn't actually get onto it. I know it connects you with someone to play against, but not sure what the multiplayer game actually entails unfortunately. The 'achievements' and 'more games' sections both also require internet access, however I did have a quick look at these before the internet stopped working!
