As a student with not much to do all day (lectures? classes? what are they?) and no job to worry about, I spend a lot of my time doing wild things to my hair in order to freak out my parents, and make them wonder what exactly a degree at university is actually about...

Thats basically how I came to use this product. When I first realised that no-one could stop me doing whatever I wanted to my hair, I still had some qualms about using permenant colour (ahh, the early days!), so I decided to stick to semi-permanent colourings.

The problem I have with semi-permenants is that I have very, very dark brown hair, and when I dye it, the colour tends to come out completely the opposite to the way I was expecting it (some problem with a blonde ended up with me walking around with a green top to my head for a week), and it fades so quickly, that I start to feel that I have wasted my money - sometimes semi-permenants are more expensive than permenants.

So there I am, sitting with all my friends, over what I would like to say was a cup of frappacino or something...but was in fact a double vodka or something, discussing this problem with them, when one of them suggests using hairspray. I've always found wash in/wash outs to make your hair feel hard and sticky, but she assured me that with Fudge, this was not the case.

So the next day I rush out to find the product. I had a little problem getting hold of it...I eventually found it in Superdrug, but it wasn't in Boots or any of the cheaper stores (somethimes Wilkinson etc sell cheap hair dye). I had no idea what price it was, I hadn't been told, and when I found out it was £5.45 I nearly put it back on the shelf! But with my friends words in my head, I took it up to the counter....

The colour I bought that time round was 'pink', as I currently have a thing for anything pink or glittery. At the time there were only a few colours around, but since they have brought out some others. The colours that are now available are...
  • Multi glitter
  • Gold glitter
  • Red corvette
  • Lime syder
  • Pretty flamingo
  • Blue hawaii
  • Purple haze
  • Silver glitter
  • Sreen glitter
  • Metallic gold
  • Pink

The packaging, when I bought it, was a plain metallic silver colour, with 'Fudge' in black, and the lid and logo in the colour chosen. Recently they have brought out some new packaging, but it is as well as the silver packaging. The new packaging is a metallic black with silver writing.

When I used the hairspray, it felt just like using a normal, everyday hairspray. You shake it well, as per normal, then hold it an average of 30cm away from your head, or closer if you want more intense colour - but that is not needed, its bright enough on its own!

After letting it dry, which it does very quickly, I felt my hair and although I could tell that there was something in it, it didn;t feel as bad as some of the cheaper hairsprays. I gave it a brush through which made it feel even more natural - although I did lose a little of the colour, but not enough to worry about.

The colour is indeed extremely vibrant - for the normal colours it shows up in one block of colour, and with the glitters it seems to shimmer as you walk or move. I found that my dark hair colour didn't matter anymore as, although I still didn't achieve as bright a result as a blonge would have done, it was still very bright, and seemed to suit the rest of my natural hair (suffice to say I didn't colour my whole head at once!)

The spray gives a medium hold on your hair so can also be used as a normal hairspray for fancy do's. There is a warning on the instructions however, that suggests that if your hair is white-blonde then a normal hairspray should be used first in order to stop the colour staining the hair for longer than wanted!

After I had used it I washed my hair, and as it says on the tin, it came out in one wash. I was in there quite a while however, and I also found that I had to wash my hair twice in order to get all of the stickiness out of it.

The bottle comes in 125g size, and there is a label to let you know that the product is not tested on animals...which I'm sure most people think is a good thing.

Although I no longer use this product, it is not because it doesn't work, but instead because I now brave the permenants (ruining my hair forever I'm sure). If I ever felt a quick change, then this would be the one to use.

I recommend this product to anyone who fancies seeing themselves in some wild and wacky new hair colour...but doesn't want to be stuck with it for months!
