This compact digital camera is the next model up from the FinePix 1400 with the main difference being the resolution of the pictures taken. The 2400 operates at a maximum of 2.1 mega pixels which means the picture quality is top notch. The only drawback of high resolution is that each picture is about 300k in size. It has a 3x optical zoom which is adequate for most use and a nice size LCD screen on the rear. Rechargable batteries are a must because it does tend to 'eat' them especially with the LCD screen turned on. The software provided is EXIF viewer which is really easy to use and activates automatically when you plus in the USB connector to the camera. The camera uses smartmedia but the card provided with the camera is only 8MB - so at high resolution setting only about 25-30 pictures capacity. You can however turn the resolution down which is ok if you don't plan to do selective enlargements. There is one big drawback of the camera though - the time from pushing the button to the picture being taken must be about half a second or more. It doesn't sound much but if you want to capture anything moving or a facial expression - you won't! You'll miss it. It is very frustrating. To summarise - really great for scenes and posed shots but action not! I'm not sure if this is a common fault of digital camera technology or just this camera type.
