Worse than that - when I reached the end of the film I had to rewidn the whole thing by hand and using ... ...bottom of the camera whilst winding the spool from the top.
So receiving this camera as a present was amazing. Its not a particularly advanced model and is marketed as a point-and-shoot camera, but it does the job and actually takes some pretty good photos. So before I start talking about my personal experience of using this camera I'll give you the technical lowdown...

Worse than that - when I reached the end of the film I had to rewidn the whole thing by hand and using a complictaed system of holding down a button on the bottom of the camera whilst winding the spool from the top.
So receiving this camera as a present was amazing. Its not a particularly advanced model and is marketed as a point-and-shoot camera, but it does the job and actually takes some pretty good photos. So before I start talking about my personal experience of using this camera I'll give you the technical lowdown...

I haven't included all the technical information the manual lists as this is the key information I think a buyer would require and its easier to read like this, rather than trawling through pages of numbers.

So on to what I think fo the Finepix A345...
Well, as I said, I got this camera for Christmas and I use it for social occassions and to document places I've been and things I've done. With 4.1 Megapixels I've found all my photos to be of excellent quality and I have the potential to print enlargements up to about A4 size whilst retaining the quality.
The camera came with a 16MB xD card, but I found that if I wanted to take photos of a high resolution (i.e. 4M) then I just couldn't fit enough photos on here. I invested in a 250MB card which, about a year ago, cost me £25. This was a bargain at the time and they are currently selling on Play.com for about £9.95. In fact the 1GB xD cards now sell on the same site for only £17.99 and there's no P&P on Play - so it works out very cheap!
Taking photos is simple. You simply turn on the power, aim the camera at your subject, zoom or not as you wish, and then half press the shutter and then completely press it. Half pressing it focuses the image and then the full compression triggers the flash and stores the image. You can just press the button down completely the first time, but I've found that focusing the image really makes a difference. Although I've been taking photographs for years I'm no photography expert since I've only ever used point and click cameras. Therefore I don't feel I could comment on any of the technical defficiencies or advantages of this camera in any detail. However, the display on the back of the camera is pretty bright and I usually have no problem seeing it in dark or light. Also, the viewfinder is a nice size and is still definatley usable.
The only downside that I've found is that the batteries get run down very quickly. If you are using the camera for outside use, and therefore don't use the flash, then they last for quite a while, but if you are using the flash continuously, or shooting movies, or reviewing photographs, then the battery does go down. A good soloution I've found to this is to use rechargable batteries. This means that while I'm using one set I can be recharging the other set. Or I can take two sets with me on a night out in town. This has worked very well so far for me.
The movie function on the camera is fun, but it's not great quality. The image is good as long as it is small and the camera has a small microphone to record sound. However, once the image is enlarged at all it becomes very pixelated and the sound is rather rubbish and if there is any wind about then that's pretty much all the mic picks up. However, I've taken some videos for fun that have come out alright, if not of the best quality. You can certainly tell what's going on at least.
Transferring your images to the computer is easy - just plug the USB from the port on the camera to the port on the computer. You can either use the FinePixViewer software provided with the camera, or you can access the camera as though it were an extrenal drive. The photos can be organised by when they were taken as the camera keeps a record of this with the photo file. There is a 2 second and 10 second timer which I have never used as I don't have a tripod, but there is a neat little screw hole ont he bottom of the camera to attach it to one if you wanted.
The A345 was about £100 when I was given it and you can now acquire them from Amazon marketplace or ebay for around £65. Infact my current A345 is a replacement from my original one as I lost the original one in a cab and never had it returned to me. The replacement cost about £65 on ebay about 6 months ago and was still in prefect condition even though it had been used by someone else.
This is a nice little camera. It looks stylish and compact and is definatley a unisex camera in its shiny silver casing. The wrist strap has held firm and its survived many nights out without even a case, picking up very few scratches. Definatley a good product for someone who loves taking photos, but the lack of extra functions might annoy the professional photographer.
Advantages: quality pictures, takes videos with full audio sound, idiot proof Disadvantages: battery life (with standard batteries at least)
Back in the old days (we're probably talking about mid 1960's to the early 1980's), if you wanted a small 35mm camera that was as fully featured & gave as good a quality results as one of the larger SLR jobbies, your only real serious choice was the Rollei 35 range (look it up on Google if you've never heard of them).
These days, you have a much greater choice thanks to the invention of the digital camera..... and this Fuji A345 is no exception.
... ...loaded with similar features...... but it also has a few new tricks up it's sleeves.
Just like the Rollei, you can zoom in & out on stuff...... but unlike the Rollei and more like a traditional SLR camera thanks to the bright LCD screen on the back you can see exactly what the lens see's (although it can be a bit awkward in bright sunlight)...... and just like all good Digital camera's with an LCD screen on the back you can see your results within ...

The camera has three different modes, picture mode, movie mode and playback mode.
Picture mode, the obvious, to take pictures, movie mode, capture movies of 15 frames per second with sound and playback mode to view pictures/movies, trim and edit photos, view photos as a slideshow. The ... ...pixels, which you could say is rather low , with all the top quality cameras these days being 6 mega pixels+ But I would say the quality of the pictures are good enough for most people, unless you are a professional photographer of course. I bought my Fujifilm A345 digital camera, about a year ago. I bought mine refurshed, via the Fujifilm website, were, now they sell for under £40!! (Search for their site on google) I have enjoyed taking hundreds of photos with it. The photo quality, is great especially when on, "fine," mode. Unlike other digital cameras, where the picture can be, dull and flat; the Fuji, picks up , more natural, vibrant colours. Although you may think of it as, "old-tech," ... ...a conventional viewfinder. This proves to be very useful; it saves on battery life, (if you switch the screen off too), and is much easier to use in bright light, or tight spots. Something to be wary of, though, is the fact that not all of the image that you take is displayed, either through the viewfinder, or the display. This camera was bought as a gift for my father by myself. So far it has been problem free and the pictures taken of a good standard. Obviously this camera is not for a keen photographer but it is very satisfactory for the average camera user. The photos are sharp and clear, except for photos taken at night which can sometimes be a little "over flashed" and white. The camera comes with some built in memory, this can be upgraded with memory cards which ... ...run out of photos on a day out. The camera menus are easy to use and it comes with a comprehensive manual if you get stuck. The camera boasts 4 megapixels this is plenty for anyone using photos on a PC as a higher number of megapixels just makes the images too large and in too higher resolution for general use. The best feature has to be the 4x optical zoom, many cheaper cameras don't come with an optical zoom (this is where the lens actually moves) ...
