It is 9 megapixels which is a change as most cameras jump from 8 to 10 and thus the price has a jump as well.
The macro's let you get some great close ups and the imaging sensor picks up many subtle colors that some older cameras do not. Unlike many of the new fuji cameras the layout of buttons makes more sense and my wife whom has never used a digital camera before figured it out quite easily.
It is as has been said modeled for experienced users and beginners alike, as you run trhough the cycle wheel choosing the different functions a message displays on the screen saying what each function is best for.
The only downside of this camera is the autofocus that goes off on every picture making the shutter delay a bit longer then one is used to...great for portraits not so great for action shots
On an aside if your wife in a moment of brillance steps on said camera the screen will cost 110 dollars to replace, and with the camera now costing 159 you might as well just buy a new camera.
