this camera offers one of the most versatile uses of a camera I have ever seen. How much could you pack into one thing?
Get past the auto setting, and it will open up a whole new range of photograpy techniques to you.
Watch out for the slight problems you can experience with auto-focus. If you're not careful, you can get some very strange faults, like the main subject on the screen being blurred, and the background being in perfect focus. This usually happens, though, if your main subject is either a non-entity (smoke, flames, fireworks - that kind of thing) or you have very little contrast between your main subject and the background (for example, if you take a photograph of a black cat on a black rug, or a person dressed in white against a white wall)
All you need to do is watch the AF warning on the LCD, and you'll be fine.
One more thing to get really excited about is the macro mode. it's one of the greatest macro modes i've ever used. the AF on this works perfectly. I was also impressed with the chrome film effect. it really really enhances all the colours in a photograph way beyond what you would expect.
One more thing to comment on is a fault that you could develop. The pictures you take could get a pattern very much like a wood-grain effect. if this happens, try these few simple fixes first, because I have now owned two of these cameras (I gave one of them a shower, by leaving it out in the rain).
1) check your batteries are fully charged.
2) check your batteries don't need replacing.
3) check that the XD card doesn't need replacing.
4) check the lens is not dirty.
5) reformat the XD card.
these worked for me, so they may well work for you.
As i said, almost a perfect camera. Well well worth the money.
