Geeky, photography-obsessed student with lots of consumer views to share (especially on cameras, since I've tried pretty much every camera once.. ). Thanks for reading!

=OVERALL VERDICT=
The FinePix F50FD is too complicated for a simple point-and-click, but not engaging enough for really advanced photographers. I suspect the first group will never use half its features, while the second will be put off by its numerous bad points (no manual exposure mode; slow between shots, and some speckling/noise even when you set it to its lowest ISO of 100).
=SPECIFICATIONS (for those who want more)=
DIMENSIONS: 95 x 59 x 23 mm WEIGHT: 155g. Not quite pocket-size, but definitely a light camera that can be slipped into a bag. BUT - this camera comes with NO INTERNAL MEMORY (well, it holds ten photos but - let's face it - that might as well be NO INTERNAL MEMORY), so you'll need to take a memory card with you. Yes, I know, it doesn't weigh very much. But what's the point of a camera being LIGHT if it's only LIGHT because it's EMPTY? Moreover, you can only charge the stupid thing by taking the battery out and using Fuji's wall-charger. So the camera, frankly, might as well weigh a brick and be as big as one.
AESTHETICS: Fairly standard. The brushed silver look is nothing new; disappointingly, it actually looks a lot less hi-tec than it is - a perennial problem with the conservative look of the (very good) FinePix range. The black plastic back is ugly and old-fashioned, and not that sturdy - a friend has reported wear/indentation around the 11 external controls. Also, don't drop it.
IMAGE QUALITY: Colour balance is good, little/no fringing. Night mode is disappointing, and the camera is generally poor in low-light. Otherwise, there's not much to report - definitely not a standout product, especially given the whopping 12 Megapixels.
VIDEO: Good. Smooth playback, good detail - better than I expected.
SPECIAL FEATURES: Few. Face Recognition 2 technology detects up to ten faces, but seems to make the camera even slower (and decrease battery life faster, although as nobody else reports this problem, it might be an individual quirk).
=PRICE AND CONCLUSION= The Fujifilm FinePix F50FD generally sells for about £150-160 in the UK from major online retailers. However, it's worth looking around the web - since I've spotted a few under $300 prices in the states, you might be better off finding a US seller with cheap shipping (given the exchange rate). Overall, though, you'd be better off not buying it at all.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
Sorry for the less than average rating but I felt the review was mostly descriptive about the product with barely any personal opinion about the camera. I would want to be using a camera for a few months myself before writing a review on it :)
Advantages: Great picture quality, easy to use and get used to, AV Out Disadvantages: Fairly heavy camera, not as aesthetically pleasing as Sony cameras
