I feel its a shame my s5800 broke, although the s1000fd i have now has far superior quality it was a great camera,
---PICTURE QUALITY--- Along the Long timeline of Fuji cameras this is one of my favorite. its simple design is great and it fulfills its primary function, to take photos. The quality of the photos is above my average standard, and a little bit above any point and shoot camera, The Funjinon Optics Sensor in this camera is very heat sensitive and if exposed to heats above 48 Degrees C it will decrease image quality permanently, this is the reason why mine broke, Although it does have a faulty sensor Fuji have stopped recalls and will not repair it. if its in warranty you must take it back where you got it. the picture quality for the short time i had it functioning was good, all the settings suited the camera and it functioned as you would expect, like a high quality camera would.
---RANGE AND QUALITY OF FEATURES --- The S5800 has a wide range of features like all Fuji bridge cameras. Manuals, Autos, Presets, and a nifty option that takes 2 photos, one with flash one without. the quality of the features is high and the hardware and software work well in collaboration to create some great quality images without huge amounts of skill.
---EASE OF USE--- The software makes it very easy to use and all the buttons are layed out well, it fits nicely in your hands, maybe a little bulky but its weight is almost perfectly balanced. it does chew through normal AA batteries and i would suggest using rechargeable batteries, otherwise expect to be changing them often, the interface is great and has been used by Fuji for a long while steadily upgraded.
---DURABILITY--- This camera does not seem as durable as its newer counterpart. although it did have a very nice professional feeling finish it was only plastic and rubber and i think a drop would have compromised the life of the camera
---OVERALL LOOK AND DESIGN--- The camera looks and feels great. it works very well compared to other compact cameras and it deserves recognition in the cheap camera market. its suitable for anyone who isn't going to drop it and is old enough to understand its not a toy, and that its not like the advert, don't hit it against taps and drop it in mud.
---VALUE FOR MONEY--- This camera is a good camera and im not sure if its a recurring problem but it does have sensor issues, if you plan on zooming in on planes on sunny days, Avoid the sun, zooming in will act as a magnifier for the sun burning the back of the lens and compromising image quality, extreme heat is not good and exposure to sunlight an ruin this camera.
im not saying it will happen but i suspect this is what broke my S5800, buy at your own risk because from my experience its faulty and Fuji have messaged me confirming that particular sensor is more sensitive. its worth a buy if you can get a sellers warantly just in case.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
Advantages: Small, simple to use, great zoom and creat quality pics. Disadvantages: Hmmm... the only one would be the viewfinder. A cover for it would be nice.
