I bought this camera for a bargain £130 from Currys as it was the last one in stock! I shall now bore you with the camera specifics for those who want it in the review.

The camera is one which prides itself on modern technology – as most photographs are actually taken in evenings, indoors or both. I must agree that more of my pictures are taken on nights out than anywhere else, and from using this camera in those situations I must say I am very impressed with the quality of the images. They are sharp, bright and don’t have the shadow effect some other cameras give you. This is due to something they call ISO 1600 sensitivity – it means that you will be able to get beautiful, atmospheric photography without needing to use the flash. The Z3 Zoom is for people that know that sensitivity is more important to great photographs than the number of pixels – which I must admit the number of pixels is something I am very focused on when comparing cameras.
This is a 5.1 mega pixel camera – most people say aim for 10 mega pixels but to be honest, my last camera was 3 mega pixels and the images it produced were fantastic – clear, sharp and were suitable for printing. This camera has an extra 2 mega pixels and you see the difference! With the added technology for the type of photographs you take i.e. Indoors/evenings the result is fantastic!
When using the camera, I was also very impressed by its speed; the camera is powered-up and ready for action in a super-fast 0.6 seconds. Its shutters lag is a mere 0.01 seconds and a shortened shooting interval of 1.1 seconds between frames. I found those timescales on a website but it literally is so, so quick! I find the buttons on the camera very simple and it did not take long at all for me to use it. I have read on other reviews on the camera that some people found the buttons to be quite small and not for those with “sausage fingers”. I have slim hands and I found it fine, and my partner whose hands are slightly sausage-y [I hope he doesn’t read this!] he also found it easy to use. I suggest playing with it in store before you buy – even if you buy it online, go into a shop and ask to see it to make sure you are compatible with it!
I was disappointed to find that my ScanDisk memory card I was using on my old digital camera did not fit into this camera – the on board memory is 10MB which is, in all honesty, absolute rubbish! A friend has now notified me that Olympus and Fujitsu cameras don’t accept just any memory card, in a delightful scheme to make sure their accessories are successful you need to buy their xD memory card which is ever so slightly smaller to fit into the memory slot in the camera. I got one from eBay for £25 including postage so I advise you to shop around!
The PC compatibility for using the camera with your computer and uploading the pictures are as follows: -Factory installed USB port required IBM/CAT compatible computer
CPU Pentium, 200MHz or higher
Window 98, 98SE, 2000 Pro, Me, XP HE/Pro
RAM of 256MB or more
450MB of hard disk space
CD ROM drive Macintosh Computer
CPU of Power PC
Mac OS X 10.2.8 to 10.4.4
RAM of 256MB or more
400MB of hard disk space
CD ROM drive
- Please Note - Available capacity may vary based on formatting or other functions. 1MB = 1 million bytes. The camera comes with an inbuilt battery which can be charged from completely empty to full in about 2 hours – I can’t honestly say if this is a good timescale or not as all my previous cameras were AA battery operated. 2 hours is ok with me, and the battery lasted well – it didn’t run out during my night out!The actual contents of the package are:
Camera & battery [obviously]
Camera dock
Hand strap
USB Cable
A/V cable
AC power adapter
Picture Cradle
CD ROM for FinePix Viewer and ImageMixer
When not taking pictures, the camera is pretty much operated from the camera dock. The dock acts as a charger and is also where you plug the USB cable. Here’s a hint – when you want to upload your pictures you insert the camera and press the on button. Obvious, I know, but I spend ages trying to find out why it wasn’t doing anything! Ha! It slots into the dock nice and easily, and you just insert the cable you require – it is very easy to use.The programs for the camera are FinePix Viewer and ImageMixer which both have good graphics – very user friendly! It asks you to choose a location for your photographs and you name the folder and the pictures are uploaded for you to toy with them – crop, resize, sort out the dreaded red-eye – and all the usual edit features. The ImageMixer program is for those who want to create photo CD’s or DVD’s. I thought it was wonderful until I realised that although you get the program with the camera you need to pay for the DVD Album & DVD-Video on completion, and you only get 3 free tries with the Video CD. It is a great idea though if you want to make a DVD full of photographs as a present or if you want to present the photographs of a trip/holiday or wedding - I’ll be using my 3 tries carefully!
Overall I really like my new camera and give it 5 stars, as for what I use it for it ticks every box! People who want a camera for making family DVD’s or want to use a camera for professional purposes I would not recommend it to them – 5.1 mega pixels is fantastic quality but for people taking modelling pictures for example should go with something around 10 mega pixels. For my holidays, nights out and general photo taking [I’m obsessed] this camera does the trick! Operating it from the dock is a wonderful feature – before hand I was spending a fortune on batteries and when I was uploading pictures the camera was attached directly, and even though they are designed that way I don’t like the thought of wearing out the socket on the camera – if it ever happens I would prefer to replace the dock than the camera! It’s a great camera whether you take it in silver, pink or blue! Whatever colour you prefer!
Advantages: easy to use, good quality photos, the camera looks good Disadvantages: none that I'm aware of yet
...which is nearly exclusive to fujifilm and olympus cameras, the prices vary depending on the size of the memory card you wish to buy and start from about £15 and go to about £50. It does not matter if you buy an olympus made card for your fujifilm camera because they are both just as good but sometimes you will find a deal where you save money if you buy the same make as the camera at the same time.
The finepix z3 zoom has 3x optical zoom and 5.7x ... ...picture and digital zoom is used after when you playback your pictures to get a little bit closer again, but be warned, although your pictures may look good on the camera after using the zoom, they might not be so good once printed and may come out fuzzy (or pixelated) If you choose to use the zoom then optical zoom is probably the better option.
There are many different shooting modes on this camera and they are... manual, automatic, natural light, ...

Advantages: Small, good picture quality, better than expected battery life Disadvantages: Tripod socket on charging cradle.
An excellent camera for the money. Takes an excellent photo in good light, and reasonable photo in poor light. Picture quality to ISO400 is good as is colour rendition. Battery life is better than expected as you don't need to use the flash as most as many small cameras. Nice bright LCD. Excellent build quality.
On the down-side, the flash is not strong enough for group pictures indoors and the lens is a target for fingerprints. The tripod mount ... ...While many people dislike charging cradles, I like the fact that you don't need to remove the battery for charging. If batterly life was not as good, then his may be an issue - but it isn't.
Probably the best feature of this camera is just how truely portable it is. It is so small and unobtrusive, that it is impossible to leave at home and you can get those shots you otherwise miss. ...

Advantages: Small light compact Disadvantages: May be too small for some ?
I was given the fiji finepx z3 as a present recently and have been very pleased with it. This is my 3rd Fiji digi camera and it makes my last one - only 2 years old - look like a house brick !
It is small, light and compact and yet I found that the menu buttons and the display screen were still easy to manage. However this may cause a problem with some one with large hands ? This camera is promoted as being ideal for females - mine is silver but ... ...and I think that restricts its audience some what as my husband has had no problems in using it.(He might have objected to the pink!)
The ideal thing for me is that it is so light that I can just hang it around my neck and so makes it more secure .....hence why I am currently on my 3rd Fiji in as many years.
I found the menu very easy to work - but I am used to the Fiji format - and the zoom lens is a real bonus - something that not all lightweight ...

Manufacturer's product description
The FinePix Z3 Zoom is an ultra-chic compact digital camera, available in some cutting-edge colors - silver, metallic blue and light pink. The Z3 Zoom will have particular appeal to female digital camera owners who have felt that performance is frequently sacrificed for the sake of style - it is accomplished enough to capture images of impressive quality, but small enough to fit into the tiniest of handbags. The distinctive design is only part of the story; the big news is that Fujifilm's renowned Super CCD sensor, combined with the company's Real Photo Technology Processor II, spells the end for spoiled shots.Research has shown that the majority of pictures taken by women are 'people pictures' captured in low light situations at close proximity. Ironically, it is exactly these situations that spell trouble for conventional digital cameras. Their lack of low-light sensitivity leads to blurry results, or an over-reliance on flash, which kills the atmosphere and the natural lighting.Unlike the usual sensitivity limit of ISO 400, the FinePix Z3 Zoom boasts a sensitivity range up to ISO 1600 at full resolution, which means that users are able to produce images with minimum 'noise', capturing crisp shots, even if memories are a blur! Furthermore, the new Anti-Blur button ensures that the FinePix Z3 Zoom operates with a much faster shutter speed than conventional cameras, reducing the effects caused by hand shake and subject movement.Pictures may even make it to the mantelpiece thanks to the ingenious Intelligent Flash system that combines a clear, well-exposed background with natural skin tones on subjects in the foreground. This banishes 'ghostly' faces against dark backgrounds once and for all.
