My camera case!
I bought it online for £30 some years ago and it's been handled almost daily ever since. It has carried my camera all over the world in sun, (light) rain, snow and sea spray. And it still looks as new as the day it arrived.
It arrived in a dark green Fujifilm box stating the following:
FEATURE • Includes a storage pocket that holds AA-size batteries, SmartMedia™ or Microdrive™ card.
CAUTION • Wipe off dust and soil on the surface lightly with a dry, soft cloth. • Do not use volatile matter such as alcohol, benzine, thinner and insecticides. • When storing SmartMedia™ or Microdrive™ cards in the storage pocket, always use the protective case or the carrying case supplied with teh seperately sold cards. • Please switch the camera off before storing it in the soft case.
OUTER DIMENSIONS 145 x 93 x 143 mm / 5.7 x 3.7 x 5.6 in (W x H x D)
WEIGHT About 95g / 3.4 oz
MADE IN JAPAN
and again repeated in French and then German, which I shaln't type up =)
Fit The reason it asks you to turn off the camera is because when on, the lens is extended and won't physically fit in the case. This case provides a very snug (not too tight nor too loose) fit to the camera. You can tell it was made solely for this camera, and it is unfaultable. There is a hard bit inside that is moulded to the top of the camera and extends down to "plug the gap" where your fingers go when holding the camera. This provides the case with rigitity and it maintains shape well.
Appearance Have a look at the photos uploaded. It's black alright, and it looks like leather. The inside is a soft polyester fur. The back contains the pouch for the batteries/memory cards. There are gaps in the case to let the camera straps come out. There is the FinePix logo on the top, to let everyone know you've got an official case!
Construction Single stitched black thread around all the patches hold the case together plus two black rivets hold the back on, comprising of pouch and the part that goes over the top to close the case. The construction is very durable and shows no signs of weakness after years of use. Again, unfaultable.
Feel The texture of the case is of smooth leather. It sits well in your hand and feels secure and reliable to encase your expensive camera. The velcro top comes off with a firm tug, but never accidentally.
Battery Storage Holding 8 AA-batteries, this is a great feature. It has also been used to store keys. It is accessed via a velcro flap running the length of the pouch. One minor point would be the final two batteries that go in aren't really held in by the back of the pouch, so opening the pouch when it's full can cause 2 batteries to slip out. Not all the time though!
The Clip There is a button-popper clip on the left hand side of the case. It's been stitched in at such an angle that it looks like it wants to loop around the camera strap. The loop is the perfect length for this. However, the popper isn't strong enough and the case invariably falls to the ground, often leading to an embarrasing having to lean down to get it. Having batteries in the pouch and it will DEFINITLY fall off. Attaching the case to the strap causes the problem that whilst holding your camera you still have a weight pulling on your neck. I find it difficult to move around and compose shots freely with this pendulum bobbing around.
Ease of Use Due to the clip issue I've had plenty of practice carrying the case about, and it's easy enough that the clip isn't an issue at all. Taking the camera out and putting it back in is as easy as pulling one velcro strap and gently removing/inserting.
Conclusion This may be an expensive case, but it's worth it to protect your even more expensive camera. It's designed for the FinePix s602z and it's perfect for the job. It shows no sign of wear after 2 years, so I can expect a lifetime of use protecting my camera.
I'd buy official Fujifilm cases over cheap imitations anyday of the week.
