These 256 mb XD memory cards are made by Fujifilm are the latest in a line of good storage ideas for solid state information. Apparently the name comes from "eXtreme Digital"
The price is very realistic at £9.99 each from various sites, plus delivery of course. I have just found some at £9.65 INCLUDING delivery, and a five year guarantee.
This is the cheapest I have seen them, you can buy them anywhere but at a higher price. They are often described as the "Postage stamp" size cards, they actually measure an inch by three quarters, or if you are metric 19 x 24mm.
If you look on various sites, you will find a lot cheaper, but I would suggest that at this price, you can not go wrong, and you will have the genuine item.
There are two types of these cards, M and H type. They each have a different method of digitally encoding, but that need not concern us, as they are completely interchangable and compatable.
The transfer rate is 5mb per second. They came ready to use, you don't need to format them, like you do with the Tomtom.
The cards were jointly developed by Fujifilm and Olympus. They do come in a protective case, which is easy enough to keep in the same case as your camera, my tip here is to make the case easy to spot, although the time you are most likely to lose one, is when you are actually changing it.
You will probably want to keep several of these smaller cards with you, instead of just the one big one, that way when the card is full, you simply change cards and start snapping away again or hours. To change cards is simple, you just press the old card dowm, it pops up, remove & replace with your new one.
You can either download your images to your comp, or take the card into the local Max Spielman (there is a review on this firm on Ciao) and get them printed while you wait. You can of course send the cards through the post, to someone without a PC so they can choose which pics they want. This is another reason to use two cards instead of one.
As for how many images you can store on these, it depends on the quality of the pics of course, as a minimum it is over 400! Ample or what!!!
I have never had cause to complain about these cards, in my opinion these are one of the better makes. Most cameras come with a small card just to start you off, but you will soon want to upgrade to a couple of bigger ones I feel sure.
