I bought this laptop about 7 months ago because I thought it was very good value for money and also I really wanted an AMD laptop and this one was the perfect choice, as it had a 64-bit Mobile Athlon. I purchased this laptop from Comet for £700, however I have checked their website and I do not think they still stock this model, but they do however have a slighlty better Amilo model (still with a 64-bit AMD processor) but for about £80 more.
This is a great overall laptop, which is very useful for any purpose from work to playing games.
Processor: The processor latest 64-bit technology does really show making this laptop quite fast.
Memory (RAM): The 512Mb RAM is enough to do almost any task you want, however it is useful to know that as this laptop has a 128Mb shared graphics card that means that the graphics card uses 128Mb of your memory so you are actually only getting 384Mb of RAM to use.
If you have a bit of extra money to spend you may wish to buy the other Amilo A model with 1GB RAM.
Storage (Hard Disk Drive): This laptop has 60Gb (or 80Gb on some models). I think this is more than plenty, especially for a laptop, as I am nowhere near using up my hard drive space at the moment.
Graphics: This laptop has a 128Mb shared graphics card, however it can play most of the latest games. My laptop was able to play Half Life 2 on maximum settings relatively well, which is quite an achievement (however it does take a very long time to load Half Life 2). I would strongly recommend a mouse for anyone trying to play a game on a laptop, as using the touchpad is hard especially when playing first person shooter games.
CD/DVD RW: The CD/DVD drive is quite slow with a maximum write speed of about 24 when burning CDs. This is quite normal for laptops so don't be put off.
Battery: The battery is okey, but could be better. It lasts about 1 hour and 20 minutes at normal use (by normal use I mean just browsing the internet or typing something up), but the battery can be used up in under an hour if not faster when playing games or doing something processor intensive.
Cooling: This laptop can get quite hot at times, especially when playing games, however this is only a small disadvantage. The fan is relatively quiet when the laptop is used normally however when it does get very hot the fan will reach full speed, which is quite loud.
Software: The laptop comes with few very useful pieces of software (besides the Windows XP Homeoperating system) a very useful Norton Internet Security package, which works very well, but the updates for this piece of software expire after a few months asking you to pay up to get any new updates. One of the things I did find misleading and what you should not be fooled by, is that it may say that this laptop has the Microsoft Works package. Yes it does have Microsoft Works, but it is the cheaper and less popular version of the package. You do not get Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, etc instead you get Microsoft Word Processor, Microsoft Spreadsheet, etc, which I found very annoying to use. The features are so limited that constructing a simple table in the word processor or adding borders in the spreadsheet could take up a lot of time or you may find that there are many things that you just cannot do. You do actually get a proper Microsoft Office with Word 2003, etc but they are a 4 month trial.
Extras: A very useful SD card drive is located on the left side, which is very useful if you have a camera which uses SD cards. There is also a volume wheel at the front of the laptop, which is very useful at times. Three sound card inputs and outputs are located on the front as well, which are very useful, as you can use these to plug in a whole 5.1 surround sound system and not only your microphone or headphones. There are plenty of USBs (with 2 at the back and 2 on the side) however if you want to use a mouse (which can be very useful especially when playing games) you should buy a USB mouse or buy a USB/PS2 adapter for an existing mouse.
Overall I would recommend this laptop to anyone, as it is great for almost any purpose.

(+) cool and quite robust trackpad, good display,64-bit windows 7 (-) few connectors, dell drivers only, not realy for gameing (most models), finger print prone!

Hiya, well thanks for helping out for using a mouse, but I've quiet a lot of practice in using a touch pad and playing nhl-hockey with this and a few keys ... Anyway, it's nice to read, that the duration on the batteries are to find in this review, they are lasting much longer than mine, but still not that much time than needed most of the time ... Best regards, Sven (Zoobremia)
